Title: Armrest repair
Post by: Andy on March 22, 2010, 08:04:47 PM
Need to rechrome the armrests for the car, but one of them has a piece missing from the bottom. I was thinking of using this ( and wondered if anyone has used it before and if it could be chromed?
While I'm at it, any suggestions for who does plastic rechroming?

For the cost of the plastic repair and then the rechroming, I don't think you'll be cheaper that the re-pops mentioned in the other thread. (

anything can be plastic chromed..... we did a truck grille which was ABS plastic and the rechromer told us to clearcoat it with urethane clear (we used Dupont IMRON) after all the bodywork was done. The vaporized aluminum sticks to that clear. If you soak the armrest bases in pure chlorine bleach, all the cruddy chrome (and all the dirt on it) will disappear and you will see the shiny clear on the part.  Rinse well with water and then you can do the repairs and have them replated.
