Push Button hookup problem
« on: November 16, 2013, 07:06:04 AM »

Hooked up the driveshaft, tranny parking brake and push button cables on the 64 Dodge, 318 + TF.  Not sure it's right, I can't hand turn the driveshaft with the tranny supposedly in Neutral... cable adjustment? what's the procedure for this?

As long as the transmission park pall isn't engaged, you should be able to turn it. Steve knows how to adjust them, I don't.

Did you perform a trans service on it - filter and band adjustment?  If the adjustment is too tight the trans will not turn.  I learned that the hard way.  I had to drop the pan and lose all of that new fluid.  Poop!

I smell a road trip. . . .
Make sure it's not in park first.  Rear cable.

Well in a sense it was, we realized... so first we adjusted the park lever cable as per Manuel, the clearance  in the lever slot should be about even at top and bottom, then once that was done we readjusted the adjustment wheel with the 5 holes in it turning clockwise until it contacted the case, then lined up the 1st hole, then turned clockwise 5 holes, and Presto it's in Neutral.  Sooo all good now.

NOW have to figure out the kickdown linkage, the PO cut and welded on a longer piece at the carb end to work with the former Eddy 4 bbl carb, and we're going back to the stock Carter 2 bbl, so we need to shorten it, exactly how much to make it work right, I don't know.  Easiest might be to just find a stock one for a poly 318 with 2 bbl I guess.

Until then, I have had several times where I put a bolt and nut in the kickdown slot and adjusted it by moving it to the right position.

It ain't running yet!  But are you coming back to Willet at some point?  If so maybe you could take a look-see to make sure we haven't screwed up something...  special trip isn''t necessary.
