Very good buy from the pictures!

Change the title of this post - wrong year listed.  (Not to mention Dodge did not build a Cummins truck in '84.)

Did you buy the car, or just the light and put it on your car?  I'm confused.  Sweet car though.

Turns out the truck is a 4.7L V8.

Snotty....Thanks for the info on the CPU's...Good info!

Robert did say there is an ident plate on the CPU, underneath the "sticker" with the current truck's info.  He had to remove the sticker to get the serial number from the CPU.  Once they did that it was reprogrammed and the truck fired right up.  $500 is what the guy charged and he was happy to pay.

Steve, no need to swap the dash, etc.

The only word of caution I'd offer is something I just learned about these trucks.  If the problem is the CPU ad not the motor, it's an expensive fix.  The reason why is that, while the CPUs can be found in any Dodge with the same motor, you cannot simply take one and put it on another truck UNLESS you have the ability to reprogram it for the truck it is going into.  The VIN must be programmed into it to start.  If not, it will never run, and a new one costs plenty.

This should have the 3.7, not the 3.9 V6, so chain is a possibility. Haven't heard anything bad, per se about the 3.7, just never messed or worked on any. It is a single overhead cammed engine and the heads don't swap side to side, but thought to be a pretty decent engine, lots of work went into its development.

No, 3.9 through 2003.  I own one.
