General BS and Laughs / New dog = daughter bit.... :(

Well about 10 days ago we picked up a nice Rotty/black lab mix....maybe more in there who knows?  He was about 2.5 years old and seemed like the perfect dog for our family.  Everything was going well, a few hiccups that you'll get with a seasoned dog in a new family, but nothing to tip us off to was to come.



Well last night we had to have him put down. :(

He turned on my 13 year old daughter and grab her face and shook her by the face.  I was getting ready for bed and all of a sudden head screaming, then more screaming and my wife joined in on the screaming....came dashing out to find my daughter on the floor with blood pouring out of her face.  Thank goodness for my industrial and first aid training in the past...stay calm and asses the situation.

Wife was hysterical...told her in a calm and forceful voice to put the dog away (he was very concerned about what happened...he had no idea), then get me paper towels and call 911.  Daughter was asking if she was going to die...checked her out quickly...some major facial lacerations, one major one right below her eye..."just" missed the eye!  few other punctures and lacerations....she'll be OK!!!

Got pressure on the major wounds to help stop the bleeding, got some clothes on, grabbed the dog and tossed him in the crate and locked it.  Ambulance showed up and we took a ride to the hospital.

They Had to call in a plastic surgeon to stitch her up, but she was one tough cookie, very proud of her.  Don't think she shed a tear all evening, but when I told her the dog would be gone when we got home, she cried.

Wife called the shelter and explained what happened, and they told her to bring the dog down.  They put it to sleep right away.  We did not tell my daughters this though....enough trauma for now.

Wife said the Dog just turned on her for no reason, no growling, no warning other then a slight twitch in his jowls just a second before he grabbed my daughters face.  Thankfully she blacked out for the attack...all she remembers is one second she was sitting beside the dog, next she was on her knees looking at the blood pouring from her face!

She's doing well today, in good spirits...should be being doped up on morphine all day. ;)  Should make a good recovery.

Now I don't have a large knowledge base on the early B-bodies, but to
what I do know about these early B-bodies is that the coronet did not
come with the hide away headlight grille.....only the 66/67
charger...Correct?

This is a beautiful car, and the grille conversion looks very well done.  And I kind of dig the look!

General Mopar Discussions / Info on 2002 Dakota...

Might be picking up a 2002 Dakota super cheap.  Supposedly has a dead
motor and the people want it gone.  My friend had one of his co-workers
ask if he knew anyone who might be interested....since he's into old
cars.  My friend thinks he said it was a club cab, sport edition,
V6/auto?  But was going to ask more questions today.

I did a
little research last night and it seems that they used that same basic
V6 from about 1994 to about 2003.   Just want to ask those more
knowledgeable then I, if there might be anything specific to watch out
for in engine, fuel system, etc???

I'm thinking of getting it, do
 a motor swap, then possibly sell, or hold it for a first vehicle for my
 daughter in just over 2 years....Sheesh can't believe the first one
will be driving that soon!!

I have tried to take the high road on this, but clearly they are not interested in customer service or warranting their product.

Here's my story....

I purchased a Line-X spray in bed liner from,

I purchased this spray in bed liner on Sept 11/2012, for my 1984 Dodge ram pick up.  Within a year of having the liner sprayed on the tailgate began to peal.  I brought the truck in earlier this year to have them look at the pealing tailgate.  They said that they could "Glue" it back down....not the response I was looking for!

But recently I had noticed that there were several areas inside the box where the liner appeared to be lifting.  So a few weeks ago now, I started to pick at the liner and it started to pull up easily.  I was not very happy about this because I was wondering how many other sections had started to lift, allowing water to infiltrate under the liner, and allow rust to start.

So a day or two later I decided that I should try and get the liner out of the box.  I assumed that this was going to be a big job, since they claim that the liner's adhesion, and durability is almost indestructible.  Well it took me, and my friend, under 10 minutes to pull the liner out of the box.  We used nothing more then our finger tips to start the edges pealing away.

I contact the franchisee with pictures and a statement of what had happened, through their website.  I received a call a couple days later, but was not around to answer the call.  I called back and the owner (?) Wayne was not available to speak with.   We played phone tag for a week or two, but it seemed like I would not get a call back, unless I called first.  I decided to test my theory, so over the last 10 days or so I decided not call them at all....I have not received a single call from TradeMasters.

About 2 weeks ago I called Corporate Line-X and left a messages describing my situation.  Hoping that they would get involved and help settle this issue.  I have not heard back from them.  I called again last week, and again no communication.

So I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and on the corporate website I entered a "testimonial" about my situation.  We'll see what comes of all this over the next several weeks.

I am posting this on every on-line forum I frequent, with the hopes that the negative publicity will bring these parties out of the wood work to negotiate a fair settlement for this obvious faulty product.

The annual langley good guys cruise in was today.  Usually 1500+ cars!
Friend and I went down in the wagon before 6am to sit at the entrance
gate and watch every car cruise in...great way to watch a show!

General Mopar Discussions / 2002 PT Cruiser tranny issues....

Thought I would post this up here...hope someone can help.

Got a call from my sister in-law this morning, seems her 02 PT cruiser tranny died last night.  The car has 302K km's, and no tranny rebuild to their knowledge.  

She was just driving, slowed down and almost came to a stop, then turned a corner and the tranny would not go into any gear but 1st.  She said if she reved it up to the point where it "should" shift, that it seemed to just go into neutral?  And would stay there, and not down shift when the road speed dropped.

She said she would then have to shut the ignition off.  Put the tranny in park, then start it up and try again.  Tried this numerous times and the same thing happened over and over.

Check engine light came on a few minutes after all this started happening.  My brother is a car guy, so he told her to try a few thing.  So She tried disconnecting the battery for 10+ minutes...to reset the computer, and check engine light.  But the issues never changed.

Eventually they had to get it towed home.  Unfortunately my access to a code reader has been hampered by my friend going on holidays.  So I'm trying to find some advice by the knowledgeable people who frequent these boards.

My Father
was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer early last week....given a
couple months....  This is related to his asbestos inhalations while
he was a pipe layer back in the 70's/80's.  Sad time for our whole
family.

General Tech- - BRAKES / Wagon pulling to right when braking....

I've been trying to figure out why my right side front disc brake is
applying faster then the left...or maybe it's the other way around?   I
have done a 73 C-body disc brake swap.  Running a power brake set-up
with an aluminum master cylinder from a mid 80's dodge truck/van.  Front
 brake lines T'd straight off the rear port.  And the back brakes are on
 a SSBC manual proportioning valve.

The rotors are new off shore units...drilled and slotted.  I installed
them last year and this problem seemed to show up then.  I don't recall
the brakes doing this with the stock rotors and pads.  That is the only
thing I changed...new rotors, and some semi-metallic pads that came with
 the rotors.


I have pulled the calipers and front brake
hoses.  Replaced the front brake hoses with new Dorman hoses....no
change.  Pulled the calipers and cleaned all mounting surfaces and put
never seize in these areas.  Also new pins and lubed the rubber bushings
 so they slide like butter.  Still no change.  You can physically feel
the difference in drag when the car is in the air, with teh front wheels
 off.  You can spin the rotor much easier on the LH side, compared to
the RH side.  The left side feels "right" with just a small amount of
drag....the right side is too much in my opinion.  With the calipers
removed the rotors both spin freely to about the same degree.  It's once you re-install the brake pads, and then bleed the brakes that the drag starts. 

Thoughts...opinions?

Well it all came about a couple weeks ago.  I finally got tired of listening to my "oiless" air compressor...aka "The Compressor of Hate!!" Running in the shop.  Worst purchase I think I have ever made. :(

Anyway so I decided I needed a small piston driven air compressor.  SO I hit craigslist and started searching.  Finally found an old Sears Compressor - twin cylinder with a 1HP 115/230Vmotor.  Went to go check it out and when I arrived in my old crewcab the seller, and older Gent, started in on how he had a nice 92 D350 dually...blah blah.  We chatted for a while and I eventually bought the compressor.

Just before I left he mentioned a damaged tailgate he still had.  I didn't think anything of it right away and I left.  Few days later I got to thinking about what he said and so I e-mailed him and asked if he was interested in selling it.

He got back to me and said yes and also had some diff parts.  That brings me to today. :)

So I go over to his place to check out the parts.  The tailgate was FUBAR'D....he had parked the truck under the 5th wheel trailer, then drove out leaving the tailgate up....Doooh!!  And the diff parts turned out to be a near new 3.54 ring and pinion for the 92 D70 diff.  Little Richardering and I got everything for $125!!  He also tossed in a couple 73-93 dodge ram Hayes manuals.



The tailgate must have been off since almost new...shame it met it's end this way.  But I got a mint set of tailgate lights and wiring, latch and mechanisms, and the trim panel is pretty nice too....survived the bend no problem.  

And the 3.54 ring and pinion is just what I needed.  I have a spare 3.54 D70 axle I was going to hold onto in case I did not like the 4.10's from the donor 93 I'm using for the 4x4 conversion.  So now I can sell this LSD D70 diff to help fund the conversion.....I'm pretty happy!!:D

I was doing one of my deliveries the other day, out of town I might ad,
and a very nice early 70's power wagon came rattling in.  Yup
rattling...had a cummins in it!  So the guy was sitting in drive thru so
 I decided to talk to him briefly about his truck.

I asked what
year the drivetrain was...he said it was a 93.  I asked if he got the
intercooler and everything behind the stock sheet metal and
grille...Yup.  The I asked what year the truck was...He said it is a
factory 1972 Fargo Power wagon W300 one ton regular cab!!  I knew how
rare that was and told him.  He was thrilled that I actually knew what
the heck he was talking about.  He says most people hear what it is and
shrug their shoulders and walk away.  It was an absolutely gorgeous
truck, and I wish I was carrying my camera at the time.  Would have
loved to see under the hood too. ;)

Tech- - DRIVE TRAIN / Transmission mount dimensions...

I'm looking for some kind of a source..on-line, or catalog, that list
transmission mounts and their...Height, length, bolt spacing, etc.  I've
 been scouring the internet for weeks now and can not find anything.  I
have found a few dimensions here and there...but nothing that gives me a
 wide enough range of mounts to try and find the one I need to make the
transmission cross member for the crewcab, work with the NV4500.

Closest
 I've got solving my problem was an E-mail I sent to Advanced adapters
asking if they carried a conversion mount, or cross member for this kind
 of a swap...Getrag 360 to a NV4500.  I received a response, and a small
 PDF file that showed some slight modification to the stock cross
member, and the running a GM TH350/400 tranny mount.  I tried this but
the mount it too short.

Anyone have a source?

Tech- - Engine / 440 Questions...

Alright it seems when I took the wagon to the drags this summer I did hurt the motor.  It burning oil badly now.  Guess it was too much for a 90K + mile motor.  Anyway I'm search about for a good motor right now and came across a couple.  Both are cast crank motors.  My question is with the cast crank balancer on the  front of the motor will all the pullies off the 71 steel crank 440 I'm currently running still line up???
