General Tech / Hood supports 2005 Chrysler 300C
« on: December 06, 2011, 08:40:32 PM »
My hood won't stay open, can the two hood supports be replaced by me and where's the best place to buy them?     The two on our Escalade's rear hatch went out but I had them replaced at the dealer.   I understand the Chrysler hood supports just snap in.   Any thoughts?

Yeah the longer clips work better, and the large round plastic caps don't tear the insulation like the metal ones.

Did you get the A-arm covers for your Newport yet?

Snotty, the insulation was there in the cabinet, but I didn't have any clips.   Otherwise I would have had (made) you do it.

Yeah, I measured it, it's one inch thick!   You can get the clip in with quite a bit of muscle, but it shreds the fabric.   I'm going with the non-original longer clips so I don't destroy the insulation.

Yeah it's over 3/4 to an inch and the clips are only 1/2 " long.....I think the non-original longer clips with the larger diameter will work better for this thick insulation

I bought a set of the original type hood clips, but they're way to short to go though the 1 inch thick insulation and through the hole.   They also tear up the insulation.   I'm going to get the 3/4" long and 2 inch round ones which will not tear up the fabric like those dang metal shredders.

I'm putting hood insulation on my 1968 GTX.   One side of the insulation is smooth and black, while the other side is gray and spongy.   Which side goes towards the engine, is it the gray side?

I got a few pix Bob, but nothing to do justice to the amount and quality of cars there.   Too many to mention, 2100 cars !   I'll get a few pix up later.

Just got back from Carlisle 2011, wow, what a show !   Imagine if a Mopar nut died and went to heaven, that's what it would be like.

True, but we hardly ever need heat in CA anyway.......just a few days when the temp plummets all the way down to 50 F.    That's "really cold" in CA.    A/C is much more important out here.    It's nice to get as many things working as possible though, just to see if you can do it.

thanks Bob, what am I doing wrong when inserting a link?

Help, how come when I insert a link it doesn't show up as a clickable link in the post anymore?
