Tech- - Engine / 331 hemi
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:18:58 PM »
does anybody have any input on this engine? i got my hands on a 3/4 restored 53 chrysler new yorker deluxe. pretty car. it has the original 331 firepower hemi engine and automatic trans with the clutch, with 12xxx miles n it. i started it the other day and it purrs like a kitten... BUT... there was oily watery crap coming out the bottom of the bell housing . there seems to be a 2 inch drain tube there for something, but it drains the radiator. the strange thing is that there's no oily crap in the radiator. am i dealing with a head gasket issue, or maybe a freez plug? she still runs great. i dunno what it is.

Tech- - DRIVE TRAIN / transmossion wont shift
« on: September 28, 2010, 08:10:55 PM »
ok... 91 dodge ram, 360ci and the overdrive trans. every so often, only after driving for a few hours, the tranny womt shift out of first unless i put it in neutral and rev the crap out of it. then its fine for a few more hours. it does it also after driving for a while if i shift from reverse to drive. also, it will shift on its own from drive to 2nd and i have to rev it again. whats up with it??

Tech- - DRIVE TRAIN / bb 727 with overdrive???
« on: September 15, 2010, 12:37:49 PM »
ok... here's the thing. i have a big block 413 industrial with the original heavy duty 727. (or so i've been told. has the brake on tailhousing). My question is about adding an overdrive component. What do you know about the 727 that came in the 90's with the o/d? is it worth a damn? i've heard it is no good because everything (all of the forward gears) are ran through the o/d component. how trustworthy is this transmission? would it snap inside with a big block pushing it? Yes, the bell is set up for a 360, but i found an adaptor. SHOULD I USE IT OR STICK WITH WHAT I HAVE?

Tech- - DRIVE TRAIN / 413 industrial with a t-18
« on: September 12, 2010, 11:57:58 AM »
is there any reason this combination will not work? my goal is to use it for heavy hauls on hills and in the mountains. here's a little back story: the 413 industrial came out of a 72 motor home and the t-18 came from a 65 jeep gladiator. the motor home had 12xxx miles and the jeep has 15xxx miles.  i had an adaptor built to line them up. they fit perfectly.
