What's going on here?  Looks like the water pump housing gasket popped a cork?
It was pouring out last night.

Tech- - DRIVE TRAIN / The Insanemission thread- CLUTCH
« on: April 11, 2010, 01:14:06 PM »

Folks, I am going to come clean.
I am about to embark on the most insane endevour ever seen by, putting an A-833 4 speed into my 1976 New Yorker.
I've toyed with this since day 1 and kept saying that is the most stupid.....
Slowly I'm inching there.
Body: Got it up to 95% rust free.  Looks awesome at 20'.  I can live with that.
Interior: Gorgeous.  I just can't keep up with the dust.
Motor:  Killer 440 amateur rebuild.  HP/$ the best money I have ever spent.  Would curse & swear at another rebuild anyday over buying a crate motor. I can still keep on tweaking it when I get the urge.  Limitless.
Mechanically: 101% Absolutely down to the last dash bulb.
Suspension: For the 25 mi. a week I put on it, it's way more than adequate.  In a fantasy world, I would buy up the first set of new subframe bushings to come along at any price.
Glass: Excellent  + spare glass.
Rear: 3:55 gears woke that thing up .  And boy did I learn a lot.  That was priceless.
Transmission:  Flawlessing working original tranny.  In fact, I don't remember them being this good back then.  But it's now totally mismatched to the rest of the drivetrain.  Yes, I could swap in the perfect 727 but I can NOT come to reconcile my hatred for automatics.  The only thing from loving this car like no other is a lack of the 4 speed.

I'll be 61 soon.  I don't need to please anybody else but me, my wife, and my cats.

Stay tuned.

Tech- - Engine / Rough idle
« on: April 04, 2010, 04:41:36 AM »
Ok.  440-WOB II is running like a raped aped.  Pulls strong from idle to redline.  No stumble, bogging, or farting.  Mid range torque is super.  Right where I wanted it.  I'm super-duper happy with the engine.

One last issue I want to address:  Low idle is rough.  I suspect is mostly due to the my choice of cam because I don't have much vacuum at idle.  Cam manufacturer said as much.

I am wondering about one last option to tackle.  Crankcase pressurization.  There is zero smog stuff on the motor.  Not even a PCV valve.  Each valve cover has a breather cap.  What do you think?  Run a tube from one bank back to the air cleaner?

General Tech / Tranny crossmembers
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:01:45 PM »
No, I'm not asking about the people in MoparFins who like to wear women's dresses...

Seriously folks....
On the C-bodies, is the transmission crossmember the same for manuals and automatics?

General BS and Laughs / Now how smart am I!
« on: March 25, 2010, 12:44:42 PM »
Lately, Pamela and I have been having heated words over finances, specifically her spending too much!  Several weeks ago it became pretty nasty (for us anyway).
Well, I, myself have racked up quite a few New Yorker expenses lately and I knew it would come back to haunt me, so on the sly, I bought Pamela a professional artist's easel that she's been drooling over for years.  It arrived today and I assembled it in my shop.

You want to talk about timing?  After I just had finished it,  Pamela storms into my shop with the checkbook in hand and steam coming out of her ears.  She was just about to rip my head off about the $ I spent on The Nyb when she saw the easel.

"What's that????
"Well, I felt bad knowing you wanted one of these and..."

She almost started to cry.

NOW!.  Am I the smartest husband in the world, or what??

General BS and Laughs / 46binder is now on my idol list
« on: March 24, 2010, 12:30:13 PM »
Due to my inadequacies, manhood not withstanding, I like to hang with the guys that get together because that's their main interest.  On my tombstone, it will read:
 "Too stupid to breath.
Was a C-body guy"

That's why I call here home.

And I visit sites that interest the fringe element in me.  H.A.M.B. for example.
If I could dump my inferiority complex, I would be this guy in a heartbeat.  The man I want to be but I am way too conservative to reach that far.
