I'd put the 413 in the '65 300.

General Tech / Engine/Trans Swap Question

That Labaron may have a lock up converter which can be a good thing.  Cut the RPMs while cruising by 150.

If you are doing a Plymouth, the drive shaft from a Dodge or Chrysler, same year, same doors will soklve the problem.  The 904 is 2" shorter than the 727.  But the wheel base on the dodge is 2" longer.  It works!

Good info, thanks Steve!

General Tech / Engine/Trans Swap Question

Thanks.
How can you tell the difference between a 904 and a 727?  What was the first year for the 904?

Will the engine and trans (318/904) from a '79 LeBaron swap to a '66 Fury (original 318 car)?

Tech- - FUEL / Gas Mileage - not as bad as I thought!

If you look close it's probably slipping when it goes from 9 to 10 (and 19 to 20 etc)  Mine does that once in a while.   I guess turning 3 drums instead of 2 is just enough extra force that it will hang up for a mile or two before flipping over.

Even my restored unit does this Dan.  Pretty frustrating.

Glass Pack GP24's.  I'm not sure if that is the part number or not but that's what it says on my invoice.

I took my car to the muffler shop yesterday.  The guy told me I had the quietest mufflers available on the car already.  He put in an "H" pipe and 24" resonators on both sides.  The car sounds perfect now.  No more low RPM drone, nice and quiet.

Tech- - Engine / 76 400, 452 heads on a 413??
« on: November 09, 2010, 01:14:49 PM »
I'm running 452's on my '65 383.  Compression is lower but as Steve pointed out, you almost have to with today's gas; especially the stuff we get here in So Cal.  With the right cam selection, low compression motors can run almost as strong as a high compression counterpart.  I'd run the 452's.

General Tech / Muffler Recommendations '65 Chrysler

I converted the single exhaust system to duals when I restored the car.  The mufflers are still too loud and not to my liking for this car.  Can anyone recommend a muffler that will make the car sound as it did from the factory?
