'87 Lincoln Town Car:

I'm happy and it doesnt need anything really. It's way better than the 83 I had. And I loved that one too. Definately a score.

Things have been kinda off for a while but I think I'm in the home stretch of it now. Hope so anyway.

ok...

so we all know the NYer is sorta being a royal pain in the butt...
But we also know its not going anywhere...

i need... a second car. I am not in a postion to buy another C. or spend a grand... too much money flow issues for that...

I have found a K car. dun dun dun.....

linky linky...
http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/975115819.html
pretty much in my backyard...
that is cheap. the miles arent insane. it is clean...
and the family once had one... other than it constantly nagging with the electro voice.. it was ok.

would i prefer something else... yes. a fifth ave, a town car, a riviera... yes yes yes...

But beggers cant be choosers, and its not like i'd keep it forever...

Part of me wants this just for the heat on the ride to work. and lord knows ill save on gas. the rest of me hates it for being small. and well a k car... the antithesis of everything i like in a vehicle... i am going to think it over till Friday.

So my car guiding friends, speak now or forever hold your piece! lol

and my old thread was dissolved... so... heres a new bit...

the list as it stands... im not even including the small stuff here...

replace timing chain, pray engine internals aren't damaged, hopefully stops leaking oil.

includes new water pump, while its all opened up...

trans service... leaks like a sieve. probably needs rebuild, also needs new gasketry...

replace heater core ( Butch thank you only this engine bit has taken a bite for the min.)

correctly install the heater control valve

replace a/c heater controls

replace or repair the turn signal switch

replace the rear gears with donor, get mine repaired, redo job back to original...

replace or repair ignition switch

brake light switch...

front end work... probably extensive to get alignment back...

patch big hole in trunk were springs went through.

new rear springs...

suff seats...

tires...

« on: September 29, 2008, 10:25:56 AM »
im not sure when this happened as im just noticing it today... but the drivers side rear leaf set up has failed... in a pretty spectacular fashion, with the top leaf buckled upwards and the rest sailing through the trunk floor...

pics are a coming...

General Tech / something witty about starting the damn car
« on: September 20, 2008, 08:09:09 PM »

the starter is fine...

the problem seems to be, the car doesnt know the shifter lever is in park... so you go and turn the key and nothing happens... but if you grab the lever and move it around in the park selection (while still trying to start the car) eventually it finds the sweet spot and starts... but the problem is that it seems that sweet spot is getting harder to find...

Tech- - DRIVE TRAIN / kicking down...
« on: August 02, 2008, 05:42:58 PM »

without me crawling under and adjust the portion on the trans... what is up with adjusting the kick down my car... i understand you have to hold the throttle open, and push the slider.... and then retighten the nut... maybe im missing something, because i've tried three positions and nothing seems "right".

but ever since i put the eddy on... its shifting kinda funny... a real quick 1.2. shift... the secondaries open for only what seems like a second... and flooring on the highway results in nothing more than a slow acceleration...

car is running much better, but this odd shifting is annoying and probably no good...

Tech- - FUEL / everything but idle...
« on: July 17, 2008, 08:13:01 PM »
as per Butch's suggestion... the carb floats have been adjusted...

the  plug wires are spot on, nothing crossed.

the carb is tight to the engine, nothings loose.

the timing is set up perfecto.

the plugs are a year old... and cleaning agents have been added to prevent carbon build up...

the engine is finally stably mounted in with a shumaker mount...

SOOOOO....

why wont the damn thing idle nice and even and lower than around 1000 rpm... if you start her up she idles like crap, slows and dies.... gives off a nice rich smell...  if it does stay alive, its not that nice steady hum, but a session of low spacey blats.

in gear does the same, stoping at a light means your going to stall... and if you maintain a speed of 25mph or so there seems to be an ebb and flow to the power, a rush and draw back...

WOT is fine, 45 in just the primaries is fine, but back at idle it craps out...

i've been told the following...
TIMING CHAIN - i have it, but i dont think its that far gone and that should affect at all times right?

MISSING- Dont see how its possible, given the newness of all the parts... cap. rotor, plugs, wires, coil

BAD COMPRESSION/ DEAD CYL. - no way to check this, dont have the tool, cant afford a shop to do it...

VACUUM LEAK- i doubt this because everthing is tight and there are no loose vacuum lines.

I'm going to try and shoot a lil video on my cell and post it here... maybe if you see it you'll understand it...

General BS and Laughs / Insurance
« on: May 23, 2008, 09:13:54 AM »
I'm looking to get the NYer on some kind of classic representation insurance...

I know i can register it as a classic, or get the so called QQ plates, but at the insurance end I'm getting a lot of nonsense, must be 30 to drive car, must have garage...

what do you use for insurance and registration...

Tech- - FUEL / new carb, new problems?
« on: May 07, 2008, 07:05:31 PM »

so... the car had been running pretty good... untill today.

here is the new issue... i will try to describe the issue exactly as it is occuring...

basically its stalling. it stalls under light throttle (no jokes about heavy foot here... k)

it also stalls when idling at a light, or if you take your foot off the gas and coast, say like in a yielding type situation.

this is bad of course when a light turns and you cant drive away without putting the car in park giving it gas, and then restarting it.

It stalls, usually feeling like the engine is either getting too much air, or not enough gas...

on occasion the carb will burp and spit, in a fore-fire.

the idle screws are set at 1 and a half turns

if you fan the throttle it can be brought back up sometimes...

its like the RPMs are dropping like crazy, and the motor just peters out.

also

say your driving consistent low speed, 15-30mph car feels like it is pulsing or surging....

I suspect something to do with the fuel or air coming in.

Really Pissed becuase the carb is brand new.

the timing is where Steve left it.

the car does have new wires on it. but these were replaced one at a time and are in correct order.

fuel is 91 octane.

this stinks.
