MEMBERS Project Cars in Progress / '64 Dodge 318 Poly questions!!
« on: September 23, 2014, 04:08:18 AM »
Been a year since we started the '64 Dodghe 440 318 Poly engine swap (exact model and year engines) and I'm 99.5 % done, but having been so long I've forgotten a few details:

Which plug wire on the dist (rear mounted on polys) goes to #1 cylinder?  From the wire lengths and firing order it looks like the front-most one (front of car) closest to the carb  on the distributor goes to the #1 cyl , but not sure.

I have a light gray wire coming  out of the main through- the-firewall harness that I labeled "to cylinder at rear of intake manifold"... no idea what I meant by this and don't see such a cylinder on this manifold... I don't if it was a condensor or what???

Do I need 2 throttle return springs, I can seem to find only one, but pics on net for 318 poly show 2, if so, where do I get one?

Thnx in advance  for any answers!

Tech- - Engine / Poly Pulley Problems
« on: May 14, 2014, 09:45:53 AM »
After our engine swap ( BOTH the donor car and recipient are a 318 Poly, '64 Dodge 440 model,) I took the main (crank) dual pulley off the donor car with  A/C engine and put on the non-A/C dual pulley that came with my car originally. Both have PS, 727, everything else the same except for the A/C.  Now the dual pulley is out about 1/4" too far, and when I shimmed the water pump pulley out that much so that the belt aligned for the Alternator, Water pump and dual pulley, the PS pump pulley is now out of alignment with it's corresponding groove on the dual pulley... what's going on? It's enough that the belt won't line up,  is there a crank pulley that's about 1/4" thinner? Parts guy says the water pump for both A/C and non-A/C are same part number...ideas?

Tech- - DRIVE TRAIN / Push Button hookup problem
« on: November 16, 2013, 07:06:04 AM »
Hooked up the driveshaft, tranny parking brake and push button cables on the 64 Dodge, 318 + TF.  Not sure it's right, I can't hand turn the driveshaft with the tranny supposedly in Neutral... cable adjustment? what's the procedure for this?

Tech- - STEERING WHEELS AND SUSPENSION / 1960s steel wheels
« on: November 09, 2013, 11:11:54 AM »
What is the stock wheel size for a '60s Newport or other C body?

Would that fit a '58 Windsor?

I want to upgrade it from 14 to 15" wheels and use 225r75x15 tires.

Anybody have 2 or 4 clean ones?

« on: October 07, 2013, 05:30:28 AM »
I know he's been working several jobs putting in some long hours for the last year or 2, I'm worried he's going to burn himself out... any contacts with Lea lately?  he used to be a real mainstay of this place.

General Mopar Discussions / Pulling a Poly.....
« on: October 02, 2013, 05:54:39 AM »
Am pulling the tired 318 Poly in my '64 Dodge to replace it with one with only 43k miles from another '64 Dodge that runs and sounds like a new engine...  would it be easier to take it out with or without the T-Flite attached? If with it, how do the various cables for the push button selectors and parking cable detach from it? The FSM is a bit vague there...   any general suggestions?

With all the many Mopars we've had over the years, they were always C bodies, with a couple A bodies (Darts/Demon) and R-bodies sprinkled in... and that's odd really, since my favorite Mopar to drive, ever, was my Grampy's '62 Dodge Dart 440 hardtop (which was a B-Body for '62, since the little Dart A body started in '63.), it was a light feeling, lively car to drive, sporty even... well... the C dominance around here is about to change. Have stayed away from B bodies because everyone wants 'em and they do tend to be pricier than C bodies.  Also we needed the space with 3 kids. But I don't need that space now, and have been looking for a change, came across a deal, and a good thing with B's that is that repop parts are plentiful. Which is nice because it looks like I'll be needing some very shortly... just picked up a '64 Dodge 440 sedan, details & pics to follow soon.

Anyone here have any experience with the early 62-64 B body cars? sure is different that my 58 Winnie.

General Mopar Discussions / Cutting down to the bone
« on: March 03, 2013, 08:32:11 AM »

Well, now that it looks  like the '70 F3 'vert may be SOLD (we got a big deposit, and New Owner is now just waiting for good weather to drive her down to Scranton) I've very tempted by several more cars I love, including a '56 Savoy... BUT the more I think about it (dangerous) and the older I get (inevitable), I believe I've come to the conclusion that it's hard to own/maintain/store/drive more than 1 old car for the average (read: non-wealthy non-young) car guy.
I'd rather have just one car that I can finish, store, drive, and enjoy rather than spread out too thin with 4-5 cars, as per usual, that will end up sitting undone and degenerating. Maybe it's acknowledgement of advancing age,  declining energy, or limited funds. Not a fun thing to think about, but the time has come to get real,  so we won't be buying that '56, and we WILL be finishing the '58, with hopefully some time still left to enjoy her... more details on that project soon to follow, with pics.

General BS and Laughs / Moparfins Member Visits!
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:39:54 AM »
Bob Rottman (Furyfever) & wife stopped in for a short visit today,
enroute from Rochester to Florida via Gettysburg PA... we had a little
Quality Mopar Time, and Bob got a brief look at the '70 Fury and '58
Windsor before heading down to Gettysburg.  Nice Folks!  It's
always a pleasure to meet fellow Moparfinsians and family
members!  And their timing is good - it won't get out of the
'teens around here for the next few days!  They'll be down in the
warmth for the next month. Safe travels, and thanks for stopping
by!!
