If I get out there and realize it's too big a project for me what realistically could I hope to get for it as is?

Also I see there's a Simca next to my online name - I learned to drive stick on a 1963 Simca; I remember my Dad old womaning about it saying it must have had a graphite clutch as they wore out so fast. 2 kids learned to drive in that car - THAT's why the clutch wore out.

Also if I was to get a set of points for it - are the ones available new from the friendly neighborhood auto parts store OK or are they cheap Chinese junk? Should I be looking for NOS?

Which is the high side? That's that white ceramic thing on the firewall right? At least it was on a 75 Aspen I once owned years ago. You're saying connect a wire from the battery to the high side of the ballast resistor then bridge the solenoid with plier handles and the engine (if free) should commence spinning?

Thanks for all your help; I'll keep you all informed about my progress. First order of business is to clean it and see if I can get it to run. There's no key so I'll have to hotwire it - hope I still remember how. Which side of the coil do I run the wire to the battery before I bridge the solenoid?

It's only got 55,000 miles on it but was last driven in 1973. Stored indoors in dry Montana; may be a real project I don't know. I'm going out to see it in three weeks but meanwhile I had my sister (bless her mechanically inclined heart) pour some Marvel Mystery Oil down the spark plug holes. I'll unhook the gas line to the carb, get a can of starting fluid, throw a battery in her and hope for the best.

Bought a 1960 Suburban that ha been sitting for a number of years and may need a new engine. - locked up tight. Will a late model 318 fit? say a 79 Cordoba?
