Where is everyone?  I know it's cold in the shops.  I thought there'd be a bit more activity.

I usually stop by more often but my computer took a crap and is being fixed, buddy is letting me borrow one until it is fixed. Still waiting for parts, but needless to say, not "surfing" as much as usual.

Just read an article saying the 1000-1200 year drought that got rid of the west coast Mayan Indians seems to be coming around again and we are looking at a 100 year drought, and in return, east of the Rockies is supposed to be wetter. Southwest used to be a tropical paradise. Hope it isn't true. At least the article said they don't think global warming is to blame, it is a natural pattern. Go figure.

I thought that was what I said. Although it is a warmer Pacific Ocean current thing, global warming impact couldn't be ruled out. I think it is bull. It's not something I want to argue about, Mother Nature is going to make it rain or not rain, so far weather isn't controlled by man, the sun itself controls most of it, as in solar flares and solar winds, and if there happens to be a 1000-1200year pattern, so be it. It's one of those things that can't be proven or disproven. One can't take 150 years of weather temps and patterns and predict the future of 4.5ish billion years of frozen blob and molten surface.

There is no doubt that we are raping the Earth and causing all types of problems and I do believe global warming is happening. However millions of years ago there was an Ice Age and then Global warming. Since no humans were here then what caused it back then?

Exactly.  Who knows what type of procedure they used to calibrate their weather satellites way back when.  I'd imagine there's all kinds of variances.    [/sarcasm]

The thing is, there are too many variables which are not added into any predicting of the outcome that we cannot add because nobody has any control over them. Just like trying to predict an earthquake or solar flares, their impact has more to do with weather patterns than is accounted for. Pollution is one thing, I am totally against that, we do need to keep things clean, but to say plant food in the air is bad, well, that is total bunk. Not only do trees need CO2, the oceans need it, too. If the PPM (yeah, parts per million) were to rise too high, the ocean wave action combined with the salt and minerals in the water make calcium carbonate out of it, and shellfish need this in their diets to make shells. Don't pollute, and at the same time, don't try to take ocean temperatures near an underwater volcano (those things are warm), and yell the sky is warming. And the polar bear population? Almost double what it was in 1960 (as a matter of fact), so they aren't endangered at all. Recycling is a good thing, and if it doesn't get done, Mother Nature makes rust so she can do it herself, solar rays destroy other things (like the plastics, woods, fibers), and it all starts over.

I look at it this way.   Fudging the numbers is keeping much of climate scientists employed.  Else they'd be on welfare with everyone else and there's only so much to go around..  :P

ALL science is, by definition, theoretical.  Theory developed by experimentation, observation, data collection and analysis, and to say that a theory has to be proven to be a static fact to be actionable, based on our best current knowledge, is just plain absurd.

Yes, but we have gone backwards in such a bad way. In some countries, the government runs and controls everything, so the best way to survive is to do enough to get by, and not do anything extra because it will simply be taken away in order for the govmt to make everything "equal" for all, and control what advances and what doesn't. The other side is to allow the freedom to do as much as you want, but at the same time, be safe and be safe with everything around you, the more you do, the more you have, your rise is up to you, not the govmt telling you what you can and cannot do. From this point, our system has been harmed though the govmt "helping", whereas you are right, instead of those scientists having to go out and work to find the money, get donors and supporters, the govmt has decided to socially control everything by becoming the money, supporting what they want and, well, essentially doing what the Communists, Marxists, etc., do. Gotta get them on the dole, then they can control the agenda.

Meh, They've been saying the earth is warming and sea levels were going to rise since the 20's.  In the 70's it was cooling.  Pretty much points me to people will state whatever they need to state to make money.  Crack pots to scientists to politicians to sales people all ride in the same boat.  In the 80's Reagan was gunna kill us all.    in the 90's it was the end of the world.   In the 2000's brown people in the sand are going to come kill us all.

Not a one has happened, Not a one will happen.

I really don't have a problem with any of it other than theory being presented as fact.   Plenty of science is fact.

If we're merely going to do things because the merely because the potential consequences of in-action far out weigh the actions to prevent said consequences, I reckon there's going to be a lot more people showing up to churches....

NO we did move to Murderland.  Then I ended up under management that didn't care where I worked from so long as I was there to work for them.  The wife convinced me that it would be good to move back around family.  She was wrong.

So now I'm pissed off and put the house we've been in for about two years on the market and launching my arse outta here.

We're for all intents and purposes moving down to FL when the house sells.

Yeah I was pretty much happy being away from everyone.  But for the sake of raising the youngin around his cousins was the biggest factor in the move here.   But behavior problems are becoming an issue and I'd rather not have him grow up around them.  And in general I want a better way of life for him than what he would have if we stayed in New England.  It's just a $hitty place to live.

With parents (originally from Mass),  sister (lived in MD then CA),  wife's sister (lived in  NH & IL), and cousins in FL since the early '80s to 90s, I've been there enough to know I'd never want to live there.  Visit for a couple weeks, yes, but no way buy a place and live there, it's cheap, but too many people (FL just passed NY in population with 19 million - second only to CA!)  and crazies and just weird stuff.  I'm thinking AZ or CO, the latter has winter but a lot of sunshine and warm breaks.

CO is on the verge of being californicated.  One of the reasons we left.  Well, that and you can't eat the rocks...  AZ would be my preference if I were to move back to the southwest.  Maybe North Tejas as a close second, maybe.

I didn't want to say that.  But you are right.  Florida is nuts.  The Carolina's are conservative states.  I want to move to Delaware

'splain..  I haven't seen anything of the sort.  I quite enjoy myself down there.  My kind of people.  I gotz lots of redneck in me.  Probably why I don't enjoy living here in the least.

Carolinas get very few hurricanes, the people  seem to be very level headed, smart, friendly.  I chose Delaware because it's closer to my family.  Or what's left of it

I reckon it's all where you go I guess.  Where we've been looking it's been great.  Friendly people, it's clean, people generally seem to care about where they live.  I've been told to stay away from certain areas as I prolly don't want to be seen in them though.  I can understand.  I mean not every place is prefect and I don't expect it to be.  I know I'm going to hate the heat. but so be it.

Now if I can just get someone to by my boat anchor I'd be outta here.  I guess I scared the locals by switching the house from oil to gas last year.  And the central air we put in.  Can't stand the window units they use in these parts.  Lets just say I stand out here.

BUT, if the end of the world comes, I'm moving back here.  Everything seems to make it here 25 years late.

Depends on the area of FL I guess, the northern  parts aren't so congested, more like the deep south/rednecky  than tropical.  I can't stand Winter Haven/Orlando, where my sis lives, or the SE coast, Miami etc, or Tampa St. Pete where the wife's sis lives, or Sarasota where my cousins live - all too crowded, or in some cases dumpy areas.  Venice and S of there where my folks lived isn't bad, but expensive and getting more built up, and hurricane exposed, as is most of the state.  Then again you can buy inland 10-15 miles and expect to have waterfront property in a few years!
Agree about Denver crowds, we visited first in '73 and '75 and it sure has changed for the worse. Climate's not bad, a lot of sun in winter, which we sure don't get in the NE, and places like Lyons way out from the city still aren't bad.  Daughter lives right in the city of Denver, which most young people like nowadays it seems, and her area has greatly gentrified last 10 yrs, I can't believe what little houses sell for around there, your talking close to half a Mil. and up. Not too bad 30-40 miles N of the city though.

Greeley is the future up and coming spot out there.  Tech workers  going to HP in FT Collins, IBM in Boulder and commuting to Denver and the tech center.  LochBuie as well since it's dirt cheap and out a ways.

If I could convince the wife and the snow stayed away I'd be in like say Chug Water WY, maybe even Glendo WY.

Thing about Denver area is if it snows the next day it'll likely be 60 and snow will be gone... never seen a climate so schizophrenic.

Yeah but that's part of the fun living there.  I remember one day driving down Wadsworth blvd, two lanes north, two lanes south.  Raining, South bound side wet, northbound side dry.  Wackey stuff.

I get the same thing here.   My office was a block away and sometimes I would walk.  I'd make the corner and see the water pouring down the gutter and it would be blinding rain at the office and sun where I was.

There's prediction of mega-drought 30+ yrs for CA and some other areas of the SW, the story was carried on the major media outlets a couple weeks ago, I'm sure you can Google it.

Let me correct you.  It's not sand, it's reinforced concrete

No I meant the tree huggers have their heads in the sand?

I know tree huggers, I lived less than 10 miles from Boulder CO, I know tree huggers.  I think you know I know tree huggers..
