Title: Transmission
Post by: Snotty on October 17, 2013, 10:15:44 AM
It's only been 4 years, but I will finally have my transmission leak(s) fixed on Tuesday, Oct. 22.  I've become really tired of cardboard and kitty litter on the garage floor!

I'll keep you updated.

Fairly easy fix. Remove the shift and kickdown linkage connections, then the arms, clean the area off, then use a pick to dig the old seal out/off, push the new one in, replace arms and linkage.

Yup not a bad fix.  I've done a couple when they are still in the vehicle.

I usually remove all the shifter linkage and kickdown arms.  Then drop the pan and loosen the valve body and swing it out of the way...still attached to the park brake rod.  Then use a big screwdriver and punch the old seal up and out.

Then clean everything really well, and get the new seal in place.  Use a couple big washers on teh top, and a big C-clamp on top and around and inside the tranny.  Might need a couple washers, or a socket on inside as well.  Then just crank down on the C-clamp and the seal slides right in.

Like this....

Thanks guys, but I'm paying someone to do this job.  Laying under the car getting red with ATF is not my type of fun.  Also, the man is going to replace one of the fluid lines that broke in '03 and I replaced with fuel line.

Tomorrow at 8 he gets the car.

Finished!  It was leaking from 4 different locations.  New seals installed, replaced fuel line with steel and installed, fluid and filter change plus bands adjusted, $329.00.  I was/am VERY pleased!
