Post by: Snotty on June 06, 2013, 10:15:41 AM
It's been hot here in Chico lately.  Not Bakersfield hot, but there is some humidity that the Bake does not have.  Drove my Newp last night - top still up.  I must say...

You mean R12, not R2?  I had a case of that schtuff, but sold it on ePay... still have 5 cans left though :-)

Glad the a/c works... but why wasn't the top down??

Ahhhh... The used that R-2 2 cyl compressor like forever, I saw one on
a '64 Dodge the other day, and I remember my Dad's '67 F3 had that same
one too.

Yes, they are great.  I don't know when they started using them - the '62 NY had one - but I think '80 was the last year.  My '79 Cordoba had one and I needed to do quite a bit of work on the AC system when I bought it - bad condenser, pressure hose, expansion valve, dryer, and seals.  I was able to get all but the condenser at local shops so I had to hit the yards.  I found one in a '78 'doba, but saw the R2 in a few 1980 cars - but the condensers were wrong.

I could be wrong; that was in 1997.  I know that if I had the same car today I would be up a creek - have not seen a late '70s B Body in a yard anywhere in years!
