Title: Anyone ever ship glass?
Post by: Bill on May 30, 2013, 10:29:16 AM
I've gotten myself in a bit of a spot and need to have some glass shipped.  What's the best way to go about it?  It's an 8 hour one way trip for me one way, and rather than drive I'm contemplating asking the gentleman to ship.  I know he can't pack the glass so how would you do it? Windshield and backlight.

8 hrs one way is too long for a round trip day I think.  And hotel eats up a lot of my savings.

I work in logistics for 15+ years now, glass is always a certain risk, even when properly packed. The safest I have seen is inside a frame/crate  fixed to a pallet.

Another option you could discuss with the seller: meet halfway (for a fee of course)

Or going further on Steve's idea, go to a local glass shop, and ask if they have some spare crates you can borrow/rent/buy.
