Title: A BIG THANK YOU to Firedome
Post by: Leaburn Patey on June 18, 2012, 02:59:02 PM
As mentioned in another thread,I had some car trouble on my way to the Joisey Mecca
Luckily, the Waygun decided to quit just outside of Binghamton,NY---Firedome's stomping grounds.

I left super early in the AM,and was just lucky to catch Firedome at his house where he tinkers on his fleet.
Being on the side of a major Interstate highway is not a safe place to be--let alone trying to figure out WTF went wrong.
So,with his blessing I called my motor league and got towed to his place so we can safely perform the necessary repairs.
I was 15 minutes out and well within my 150 mile tow limit-- so the tow was free.

Turned out the ECU took a dump, and I did not carry a spare.
I had an upgraded FBO system that is not compatable with the O.E. or generic parts jobber schtuff.
So,that was a kick in the ass.
With Roger and his son,Josh they eagerly offered to drive me around to a couple parts stores--one even way across town to get an ECU and a distributor.20 bux for an ECU,and 66 bux for a reman dizzy.
We also killed two birds with one stone and grabbed a few burgers at a local McD's.
Josh drives a Saab Turbo and is a spirited driver who occasionally does Autocross.
Needless the say, touring around Bingo was very entertaining--and fun!
We got her running and set the timing by ear safe enough to continue the pilgrimage to Joisey.

Something new to put into the spare toolbox for travelling:

Points, condenser, and pre-setup wires to easily bypass the whole electronic ignition "thing".

Glad you got everything worked out, and yes, good friends are nice to have along the route.
