Title: 1956 belvedere break booster
Post by: Andy Barr on April 08, 2012, 04:41:08 PM
Hey Guys
Another issue I need to work on on my 1956 belvedere is with the breaks. Fortunately I can stop if I need to but the pedal vibrates and doesn't come up from the floor. After I stop I have to pull the break back up with my foot underneath the padal. I'm guessing its a problem with the break booster? I found A place in California that will rebuild it but I wanna diagnose the problem before I remove the booster and send it off for a rebuild. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! Andy

Sounds a little more like a return spring is missing or weak. I may be wrong, but most of them have one, so check that first.

That;s a pretty complicated brake pedal setup in there.  I have to look and see if Ed is right on the spring,  Pretty sure there is one

Rock auto has a rebuild kit for the master cylinder i rebuilt mine and it wasnt hard at all and would be alot cheaper then having it sent away. My pedal to has weak returning but i havt checked the return spring yet they do have one so id check that its up under the dash somewere above the brake.

Just let the new owner know about the problem so they can't come back at you about the problem.
