So, is the engine coming out or going in? Either way, nice looking car in great condition, kind of partial to the coupes myself, nice.

At this point I have had it off the frame and back on.Rebuilt a complete rear ford housing and rebuilt a 318 engine with a 904 3 speed auto tranny.I was determined to put a dodge V8 in this car without molesting the body so as it will look original inside and out.

4 months exactly from the time I started.I have to take it and get my exhaust on soon and I am anixous to try it out.The only components I didn't change was the original front end .I had no issues with it as I put 3000 miles on the car last summer and it handled great.I relocated the front shocks to the frame from the top control arm also.

I forgot to mention that the interior in this car  is all original.I am going to order new carpet because of dry rot.It is actually in great shape other than the drivers side .This area got the most use as it was a 1 person car.I am also going to replace the headliner at some point.

Last spring I stripped the Meteor down to the firewall, removed the 352 big block engine and 3 speed std tranny.I dissasembled the front frame and painted it.I replaced all control arm bushings.brake lines, and installed power disc brakes.I dropped in a 351 w engine with a 4 speed tranny.I installed dual exhaust and man this is now a fun car.

Very impressive workmanship and 2 beautiful cars - but where on earth
do you get the time  & energy to do all that in a
year??!  The long winters up there must help, eh?

Title: 4 Month Project Finished
Post by: Gary Buckley on March 23, 2012, 06:19:55 AM

I had the last 2 winters off of work.I started the Meteor project as soon as snowmobiling season ended last April and when I start something I go at it like a bull.I usually work all day in the shop and do my homework at night on the internet.I find there's alot of info here.I have worked on vehicles all my life and love a challenge. The 41 was indeed that.I am hoping that the running gear works good and smooth but won't know for a few weeks yet as the winter is still hanging on and the roads have so much sand and potholes that I will wait.My biggest excitement is when I hit the key to the car for the first time after building an engine .its so rewarding to hear it run .I will include also for anyone who wants to view a link to youtube where I have uploaded a few videos of my projects. Thanks for the comments

Definitely two beautiful cars, even if you are a red neck, to which, as a Squid on top of it, I have been accused of being  a redneck, and I welcome you to the elite (for the 21st century) club, a few of us hang out here from the sounds of it.

As far as showing a non-Mopar, I have to say I am a little more partial to anything pre-1970, some will go all the way to 1975, others won't go for anything past 1942, are always nice to look at.

Very nice work on your 41 Chrysler.(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

Personally I like the look of the white wall tires on the car...but that's personal taste.  But you sure did a lot of work, in such a short time.  I've been working on getting my new flathead motor and tranny in my 48 Desoto for a couple months now.  But then I'm only working on it a couple hours here and there.

I had fully intended on redoing my flat head when I started the refurb in Nov but changed my mind.I now have a complete running gear for sale. It  is a 241 flat head six and the 3 speed std tranny with a fluid drive ,radiator and I might even sell the tires and wheels for the right price
