Title: 14" tires for FLs
Post by: firedome on March 03, 2012, 04:47:42 AM
Even 225/75/15s are hard to find, so are there any choices for 225 or
215 in 14" 70 or 75 series any more? ( aside from expensive ones from
Coker and the like which are too $$$ for my budget)

I bought 2 sets a few years apart from Diamondback.  The Desoto got a set of Hankooks that are popular in Europe from Mini-Vans. Nice profile ;had them put the 2" whitewall on. Don't ride badly though they are noisy.
Ukin-Fugly got a set of no-name Chinese with the 2" WW. Nice ride and handling but profile is too low.
Pretty soon 14" tires will be extinct.

2257014 is available in the BFG Radial T/A,but no whitewall-just raised white letters or blackwall.
Nobody in the broad market offers a 2257514 or 2157514 tire anymore.
Other than Coker, other companies like Kelsey Tire and Diamond Back tires pretty much got the old car tire market covered.

Being specialty companies, the prices reflect the special market so get out your wallet.
Other alternative is upsize to modern wheels and tire sizes.
I had to do that with my Waygun after my 2157514 Hankooks one by one the steel belts started to break.
2356016 on 16X8 wheels.
Done with good taste and still have some sidewall rubber showing so the car is not suffering from the rubber band or Donk effect.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys...  after a lot of Googling and calling tire stores I
found that here in NY I can still get Cooper Trendsetter SEs in
215/75R14 size for about $92 + tax mounted/balanced/new stems. Not bad.
Also Mastercraft, which is made by Cooper so I am told.  Id lke
the 75 series so the original profile is  close.

I just hope 215s are big enough to replace what were originally 8.00 x
14s on this car, '58 Windsor is essentially a '58 Dodge Royal with
Chrysler sheet metal, built in the Dodge plant along with DeSoto
FireSweep.

The 21575R14 will be acceptable.
Based on this chart link, the 800-14 converts to a 205

Yes the Coopers are whitewalls, which is what I want... I'm not looking for a performance image aka white letter tires.
