Title: Ticking speedo cable
Post by: attkrlufy on April 16, 2011, 07:28:34 AM
It's driving me nuts:  *tick *tick *tick

And at 60mph: *tickatickatickatickatickaticka

Clearly it's the cable rubbing against the outer sleeve.  The speedo needle jumps back and forth a lot because of it, too.  So what's the fix for this?  After taking out the speedo do I just quirt WD40 or something similar down the shaft and let it work it's way through the cable housing.....or does it mean there's a kink somewhere and the only thing to do is replace it?

Disconnect the cable housing from the back of the speedo, pull the cable out and look at it, run it up and down your fingers to feel for any kinks or sharp wires. If you don't find any, take some grease and wipe it on the cable and push it back into the cable and reinstall. If you feel any sharp wires, try to clip them off first, grease and reinstall, but if it is really bad, replace.

Mine does it between 20 and 30.  Some day I'll get around to it.  I never look at the speedo anyway.  LOL  You can never get going fast enough around here
