Title: cap and rotor mopar electronic ignition conversion
Post by: Jon Doersch on April 11, 2011, 02:14:38 AM
So I might be slightly retarded, but I can't seem to figure out the right cap and rotor to replace the ones on the mopar electronic ignition conversion on my 62 Newport 361. Anyone know the year and or car/engine that will get me the right part at the idiot desk in the parts store? Whatever the last guy gave me has too much clearance between the rotor and the cap and isn't firing at all...

Use 76 Chrysler

It's the same as any Chrysler Distributor

Don't tell him you've changed to electronic ignition.  Just say you need the cap and rtotor for the 361 - they should fit fine.

Today's parts guys will not look in a book; they insist on using the computer!  When you tell them you've modified the motor they get apopletic!  So, don't confuse them.

That's very hard sometimes....

Absolutely the same rotor and distributor cap, the electronics fit inside the distributor housing and the rotor shaft remains the same, thus no change, unless you have some aftermarket distributor itself.

As stated above, just choose a vehicle you know has the right parts.  Go in a say you need a cap and rotor for a 76 Newport with a 440 4bbl/auto and A/C, and disc brakes...Yes they will probably ask you this much info to get the computer to tell them the right part....(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)

What they said... you need to be very concrete with these computerized
parts guys nowadays. Gotta give em a specific make/year/model/engine...
it always cracks me up when they ask what engine it has when I'm
looking for wiper blades!!

There's an old timey parts place here that still uses paper books to look stuff up... I'm just hoping they stay that way!

But if they do, keep it for your next AMC motor!
