Title: What a mess. BIG MESS It;s Baaaaaaaaaaaack
Post by: Steve on March 31, 2011, 08:44:14 PM

I can't post the pictures because I can't connect my laptop to the internet.

WHAT KIND OF STATE IS THIS LEABURN!

Guys.  It was great meeting Rich and Ed this week.  Unfortunately, after they left, I had a serious porblem.

I had an accident!  Of all the people!  I can't post the pictures because my internet adaptor got broken in the process.  So I am still here at Chris's house.

The truck has at least 5,000 dollars worth of damage on it, is barely diveable.  The right tire has a gash and the drag link is bent.  The bumper, hood, right front fender are totaled. . . the right door is questionable.  I didn't get the vital parts, or the frame, but with no lights on the right side, I can't drive at night too well.  The right fender si sticking out 6".

Tomorrow I hope to have all this internet fixed so I can put up a picture.  Hopefully I will be  heading home tomorrow.  I have cancelled the rest of the trip.

I'm OK

Felt like I hit a pothole, until I saw this big pipe laying across the hood.  The sun blinded me for a moment and the road suddenly ended.

Being that far from home with a messed up ride would not be pleasant.

Keep us posted and keep on truckin... you'll get through it.

It must have happened right after I left, around 4:15pm. It ain't a joke, just called and talked to Chris, where he is. Truck is getting some front end parts replaced at the dealership, fender and hood waiting for installation over at Chris' (azblackhemi). Turned the wrong way, hit the wipers to clear the bugs and got blinded by the sun as it was setting in the west. I think his pride is hurt more than he is, but all is, no joke, just a little bent up but OK.

If it's any consolation, if the sign and fence had been any higher the windshield would have been busted, too.
Glad you are OK and all that, if, next time you can't remember which way is left and which way is right, stick your index fingers up in the air and  put the tips of your thumbs together. The one that looks like an "L" is left(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif).

Give me a call if you need anything.

We were talking about you.  Your ears burning?

I would love to have some paint work done bt Chris.  But on my cars.  If he had the time, we may have been able to do the whole job complete!  But I can't push my luck so far.  The man is an artist

And I will give a second thumbs up on Chris's work, whether it is his or fixing someone else's work, really, an artist. On top of that, there isn't a single one of us that wouldn't give a right thumb for the list of cars on his "to do" jobs list.

Yeah. . .  I know.  I wanted to meet the old saw bones too.

I'm up in Utah, couldn't get out of this call.  Damned cry baby kids.

They are having an illegal protest up here against AZ since they are only a few miles over the AZ border.  Greeeeaaaaattttt  Just what I needed.  It sounds like a Turkey farm in this hotel.  And it was the last room in town.  The young girl at the desk looked like she was about to cry.  I assured her eventually they will go to sleep.  LOL

Actually you didn't miss much Steve, cause I forgot to get the fan clutch for the Hurst anyway.   Snotty fixed the turn signal on the Hemi, it was only a loose screw holding the switch in !   Then after Snotty left, I came down with the stomach flu my son had and I haven't been able to eat in 2 days.    That virus would have really ruined your trip but it's a great way to lose weight.    You see, the Lord (and Snotty)  work in mysterious ways    .(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

It is a pretty area.  I like the East Coast, and find that I prefer it better to the West Coast in beauty.  But, then I see something like Mt. Shasta or Lake Tahoe and I rethink that....

Both Coasts have singular beauty, as does the rest of the Continent.  Some of the most beautiful country I've seen was British Columbia while driving to Alaska - gorgeous!

Well I got the 7 blade fan on Steve looks and works great !  Like a moron, I put the fan on and forgot to put the fan shroud on first cause I painted it.   Don't ya hate that when you get something on and then realize you have to take it off for something else?  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)        The Einstein who put the 5 blade flex fan on had 2 1/2 " bolts holding it on the water pump.   You have to use 1" long 5/16 bolts though, cause that's the clearance between the clutch and the water pump holes.  Those long ones don't slide in that space.  Nice to have the proper fan and clutch installed now for proper cooling in this car.   It's hot here in the Bake (Snotty).

The next assignment for Snotty is seeing if that heater valve will work .  Snotty thinks they may have disconnected the hoses cause the heater core leaks.   What a Mopar heater core leak?   Verrrrrrry unusual, right Snotty?   (See antifreeze on floor of 68 GTX, but Snotty fixed it) I hope the core doesn't leak and the valve does, but hey, who needs heat in Bako?

Snotty had a great suggestion for Mother Mopar.  If they had made the fan shroud in 2 pieces, then you could slide one side off and you wouldn't have to take the whole thing off to get the fan out.   But that would make sense, which is why it was skipped.  If the right 1" bolts were used, you could get the fan out without removing the fan shroud, just wiggle it around a bit.

Yes, and 2-piece.  Look at the shroud for the '62.  It as far easier to remove than the plastic ones.

There's a copper spacer or adapter supplied that you have to put on the clutch hole/ pump spindle.  It says "failure to do so may cause vibration and noise".

Chris has the 'cuda in his shop, and it took a lot more work to get things straightened back where they belong that what Steve and I looked at. As Chris put it, and I can attest to (previous owner of a 74 Barracuda), assembly quality was pretty bad by this date, and Chris had a lot of "shifting" of sheetmetal to get things correct. It does look pretty nice at the point he has it, even if it isn't one single color yet. It was a nice day of what, 92, but a little on the windy side, I ended up with a 30-35mph headwind dead out of the west the whole drive home, made my mileage drop a couple mpg, and while driving past the sand dunes, I could hear the gusts sandblasting the car above the roar of 85mph, radio and regular wind noise. Thank god there is only a five mile sand dune stretch where the sand was blowing across the road .

And Steve, Terry did get a rose (as the story continues!).
