Title: Polaraco got a Christmas Present
Post by: Steve on December 28, 2010, 12:26:41 PM
I finally got to doing this.  Got rid of that ugly thing I had in there pieced together.
I took it all out and sprayed clear over the tubing so it won't get ugly in time.

Yeah. . . .  Now it looks professional.

I can't wait to get started on that dash.  I'll be rewiring the whole front and eliminating allot of clutter.  I neatened it up when I did the engine, but now I want it reduced in size.  I'm running 14 gauge when I could use 20 gauge for some things.  Re-routing the heavy loads off the bulkhead.  But Lance is sending me the whole harness from that Newpie so I can make it all happen.  It only took me 4 years. . . . .   I can't believe I've been driving it that long

Do you have a pic of the tube going out through the rad support? Did you cut a hole and shove it through?

Yeah  I cut a circle in the rad support and moved the horns.  When I put it back together tomorrow, I'll click one for you.  Too cold and dark right now.

This is the second gift i got for Polaraco

Not sure you can tell, but I am installing HID's in it now.  I am going to put the low beams in the 62 and wanted to see if they would work.  Since I am driving Polaraco today. . .  The left low beam is done.  There is more of a difference from behind them.  I mean the difference is Huge!  The light is whiter.  It may be the lamp wasn't fully warmed up and there is some humidity inside the housing.  The light clouds up for a minute or 2 when you first turn them on

What kit did you use for the HID's??
Also did you use the glass housings from the halogen upgrade kit?
I dont think the cheap plastic housings will hold up to the heat from the HID's,IMHO.
I am planning on doing this upgrade in the BoaB and Waygun.
Waygun already has  the glass Hella housings with H4 bulbs.
So,do I just buy an HID H4 bulb  kit for the for it?? I will be installing relays,of course.

Does that put the filter behind one of the headlights? I like that.. I could even do this with a carb set-up

Do you still have the K&N hat from the first pic?

I think they are H1 Bulbs Lea, Not H4

I'm a dealer for these HID's.  You need the kit because there is a ballast.  But it's pretty much plug in

I need to get another set of the glass Hella's.  I am impressed with how well they work in Polaraco.  That was one of the first things I did to the car while I was building it

Ahh  Edit

Make sure they aren't H1's Lea.  I just looked them up and see they are H4 Now.  Mine are old enough to be H1's.  But that doesn't matter because the optics are the key in this case.

I should look for one of those.. If I put the Performer RPM on Eileen, the stock breather won't fit under the hood so I was thinking a set-up like yours would work quite nicely..

Basically your chrome hat is one for a supercharged carb car?

Title: Polaraco got a Christmas Present

Not really it's made for all 5 1/8" fits.  And it's low profile.  Lower than the K & N I modified.

The primary thing is to get cold air instead of all that engine heated air.  There was a huge difference in the bonnet temps after driving the car.  When the filter was inside the car it was hot.  When the filter was moved, I have to say it was almost cold on a warm day

The one I used was for a early Dakota V8, Gen 1

so the chrome one is lower than the K&N One?

Title: Polaraco got a Christmas Present
Post by: Steve on January 06, 2011, 03:22:23 PM
yeah, about an inch lower.  I had to squash the K & N one by about an inch.  I used a heat gun and pushed it down.  It barely fit

Oh you know. . .  Not giving me any problems so it's out of mind.  That and it's costing me over 400 for that when it's done

I'm not too familiar with the rear of a 72 Polara - does the insert
between the tail lights (where D-O-D-G-E is spelled out) normally light
up when the headlights are on or did you add those?  I ask because I've
always thought it'd be neat to do something like that to Wanda.  You
know, if I could get the entire row - including the fuel cover cap - to
light up:

I just think that'd be the bee's knees to see a solid swath of tail
light illuminate at night like a wall of red with no way to see the
bulbs (unlike now).

Hey Dom, long time no hear... maybe you could scavenge light housigs
from another R body and mount them behind the red plastic panel on
either side of the filler... for the gas door, that'd be more difficult
- maybe LED's could be used behind it to keep it thin and not interfere
with the filler neck. Are the panels transparent so light would shine
thru?

Hi Dom

They were added and I sell just what you need.  You'll need two strips.  They are pretty inexpensive

One step ahead of you Roger.  ;)  I already have a complete, spare tail
light assy (including the fuel cap lens) on which to do my experiments.
The fuel cap lens appears to be translucent so it should work.  And,
yeah, you're right - only LEDs or some other low voltage light will work
because of the tight space.  But if I'm going to use LEDs for the
center, then I'll have to use them for the L&R tail lights, too, so
everything will "match."  That's where it's going to get tricky.

That's also why this is a "low" priority project.

But I think if I CAN ever make that mod it'll look SUPER sweet.  Seeing Polaraco like that gives me hope it can be done.

Hmmm.....I'm going to want to know what the warranty period on your work is first.  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)     Sorry....seriously, though, are the LED light strips something you fabricated, or are they a manufactured product?  You have a pic of them?

I am a dealer for them.  I am doing the HID headlights too.  I plan on specializing on these old dual headlight systems.[/QUOTE]
Looks like we're going to have to add you to the list of trusted vendors, then.  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)
