Title: How to Identify Gear Ratio

I want to lower the rear end gear ratio on my 60 Fury (Ukin-Fugly)
It started out as a 318 3 on the tree, so it has 3:44 Gearing according to the Manuel. Found a guy with 2 60 Plymouth donor cars(no too much left) He says both(Belevedere and Savoy) have 361 Golden commando motors and automatic. So the y should be according to the book 2:76 rears. He doesen't want me to take them unless we're sure they're 2;76's.
Any way of telling from the Vin or build plate?

The instant way to determine the ratio is to look for a flat metal tag that is attached to one of the studs of the pumpkin, and if that isn't attached, the pinion gear should rotate almost three times for each time the rear drive wheel turns once. Mark the tire to the fender edge and mark the U-joint so you can count the rotations at the pinion. The driveline should actually rotate two and three quarters turns to one full tire totation.

Apart from that the gear ratio is stamped on the main ring itself.  It's not that hard to pull the third-member out to read it - except for the pressed axles those cars have.

Not really Stan. . .He has a 413 in the car.  It will move regardless

Thanks guys. There's no tag on the pumpkin. It's one of two cars in a salvage. Don't think its in a spot where i can spin anything.I'm gonna buy the differential.
 
The 413 from a 59- 300(minus the crossram) and the torqueflite rev up pretty good at 80MPH.
