Ok gang, I need to do some reasearch here.  My turn signal switch in my '66 300 no longer works right.  It's broken and tired, and I can't ring it back.  As many of you know, the exact switch is obsolete.  The original part number is 2822170.  I have seen references to using the 2947801 to replace it, after you do a little grinding to make it fit.  Has anyone done this yet?  The Charger forums mention it, but don't give really clear pics of what they did.  My 300 is grounded until this is done, and I can't lay out the money right now because of holidays and prior committments, but I'd like to know the info now if I can.

Thanks Steve.  I'll just drive it around the block doing only left turns until the time comes I can get a switch.....(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif)  No biggie, it has no heat anyway, so it won't get driven much.  But that speedo sure works good!!!!!

No, it had a tiny screw from somewhere other than the cluster get into it and jam it.  Screw removed, works fine now!

   So did you use the 2947801 and modify it or replace with a used unit? As of last night i too have no r/side indicators and need a new switch.

I wouldn't put much faith in Moore's - I called them 3 times during
their time zone window, never answered the phone, then left them
messages twice, I even dropped Steve's name the 2nd time... no call
backs... maybe I shouldn't have mentioned Adolph... hmmmmm.

   I'm not too interested in used electrical parts from the sixties but if need be I have access to several 66' 300 parts cars up here. I would prefer the part new even if a modification had to be made.

I wound up cleaning my old switch contacts up with a Dremel and a wire wheel.  Then, I scored a NOS switch off of E-bay for a good price to install this summer.  Did not try fitting the later switch in there as the local Chrysler dealer wanted 174 bucks for it! carrman2008-06-06 12:18:19

   Well $174 bucks is gonna buy a lot more beer than right turns let me tell ya. So the switch comes apart? Did not know that. I'll pop it out next week and investigate. Will take a few pics too and if successful maybe it will help somebody in the future.

The BoaB's TS is used and works fine.I cleaned the contacts like you did.
Knowing how delicate they can be after 40 years of use,and through force of habit,I am gentle in using the stalk.No gorilla hands changing lanes.

   Well I unplugged the switch, disconnected the cable and removed it from the lower column this past Sunday morning and investigated. When the switch is slid to full left or right turn position the contacts are clearly visable. I went ahead and sprayed electrical contact cleaner liberally down both ends and then applied dielectric grease. This solved my l/rear brake light and r/side indicator issue until I reinstalled it to the lower column. Seems now the cable is out of adjustment when r/side indicator is selected. The cable comes up a little shy of pushing the switch fully into position. If you gently nudge the cable a little further along the lights operate.
   So the question is, is the cable adjustment further up the column? There is no cable adjustment at the switch so I assume it has to be further up. Or is there any adjustment at all?

Is this on the 63/64?   It's not a 60 to 62.   I'm just trying to figure out where the cable fits in for the turn signal.  Never saw one

   Steve, it's on the 66' 300. The car is console shift so it may have something to do with it. I always figured it would be a unit behind the steering wheel but it ain't. It's remotely mounted on the lower column about 2 inches from the firewall and cable operated.

I have an FSM for a 65.  I'll take a look there when I get home tonight.
 
I guess I will be learning something new.  Never saw a setup like that.  The VOAB is a 67, but the switch is behind the wheel.  That's the only floor shift car I have ever had. 
 
Is there an adjustment on the column switch mount by chance?  Or are the holes round on the switch?  Not slotted.

Best I could do Jim.  It's not the floor shift, it's the tilt column.  NOW I have something to look forward too.  Big Red has tilt!  OH BOY!  No pictures.  Hope you can read it

   Yeah, according to that it does not make any mention of an adjustment. I guess I will just have to take it apart and fool with it a bit. It wont be a lost cause as the horn contacts have a part missing there somewhere too. I dont recall what it was as it was 7-8 years ago when I last had it apart for the previous owner.
   Thanks for the help though, at least im not going into this blind and I have a good general idea of where im headed. Great info with the FSM and much appreciated. Got a full plate for the next week or so but will update with detailed pics when I tackle it.

Don't know if this will help, because my experience with this type of switch is on the early model Corvair.  On those,  you install the wire, and  then you adjust the switch up and down on the column by sliding it with the mounting screws slightly loose.  You have to have someone looking at the taillights to tell  you when they are both off.  Then you lock the switch down with the screws, and try the handle at the top of the column to see if the switch works properly.  There is a mechanism at the top of the column that activated the switch and also cancels the directionals by moving the cable.  It is a convoluted system to set, but with patience, it can be done.  You might also still have a problem with all the contacts inside of the switch not making proper contact, even though you cleaned and lubed them.
