Title: Heater/AC Blower Motor Issue - '65 Chrysler
Post by: Scott on September 04, 2010, 09:20:08 AM
The blower motor in my '65 Chrysler is making a whining noise. Usually, if I put it to High then back down to Low it stops. Recently, I've had to do this several times for the noise to stop. Does anybody have a clue what it is or how to fix it?

Can it be rebuilt?  An NOS one is $189.  I'm not sure an auto parts store replacement would look correct.

I think you can buy rebuilds.  Or maybe just oil it up with engine oil.  Sounds like the bushings are dry.  I forget how easy they are to get out. . . .  They're in the open aren't they?

Be careful when removing the squirrel cage.  If it's plastic, they crack pretty easy at this age

I called the parts store.  They will have a new motor at the store for me to look at on Tuesday.  With it being out in the open, I want to be sure it appears the same as the original.

Yes on the Charger, but it has steel beams in the doors that you don't see.  Those add weight, as well as do other things....

Oil the shafts.  I think you may have to dril a tiny hole on the back bearing.  I don't remember if there is one on there.

All that extra weight today is because of all the idiot drivers.  The car copanies do all they can not to be sued.  Make something idiotproof and you'll find a bigger idiot.  Same applies to all these emmision controls.. . .   Don't get me started. . .   It's not the good ol days anymore

Well the parts store replacement is out.  It didn't even look close to the original.  I'll have to get mine one rebuilt or bite the bullet and buy an NOS one.

They've got the same motor the parts store carries.

Thought I would let you know it's a work in progress now.  Do you have a picture of the blower motor you can post?  My 65 is tucked away

Yes.  It just wasn't installed when that picture was taken.
