Title: Moving along...She made her debut
Post by: 300rag on July 02, 2010, 02:25:37 PM

Dash is now painted to match the new exterior colour (1970 Dodge Q3 turquoise). It should look good when the rest of the interior is done. Also getting a Grant wood wheel - like Krautmaster's.

Upholstery is Legendary, panels are SMS, and I am going to try the  bucket seat foam from Legendary  (MF60ABCSET) as well. Back seat will have to be re-done locally.

Red is put away for the rest of the season. . . I have to get this subframe into the 68 to make room for the 62 New Yorker, I bought from Snotty in 2003.  This will be the first time it's moved since.

What's up with those taillight bulbs?  I've never seen that type before, or is it just an optical illusion?

Looks great regardless...really like that color!!

It's a red plastic cover over the regular bulbs.

It's actually a red glass dome. That's the only way unless you use red bulbs. I'm also toying with using clear LEDs that light up red. Don't know if there will be enough light spread to reflect off the back of the bowl though. They might be too directional, but will be brighter.

Then..... Hermann  (BigBlockMopar) posted a pictire of his 65 300 on a patch of snow. The turquoise just popped and now I am committed to this combo, but will have to spring for a new roof. Really want to see it finished now. Thank you Hermann!

Glad I could help... LOL
When I had just bought my 300, it was dark blue with a white'ish' interior. At least I thought it was white. Later on it turned it was light blue, but it was bleached by the Arizona sun.
This was after I had sprung for an entire new black roof and interior. I had the car re-upholstered in the US before it came across the pond.
I had chosen black as that the easiest color to chose an exterior with.
Very shortly I had decided I would want the car to be a deep wine red metallic color. I had also chosen the chosen in the paintshops colorsample-book.
But whaddayaknow... on the day the paintshop actually planned to buy the paint, they came to me with the colorbook in hand, asking me if I was certain about the color.
I sat down with the sample-book in front of me and starting thumbing through it again. And that's when I came across the light turquoise color and I decided that was going to be the color from now on. Just minutes before the paint was actually ordered.
I'm sure a metallic wine red paintjob would've looked nice on the car aswell, but the turquoise color really freshened up the car.
In hind sight, had I known earlier that the original roof and interior color was actually light blue, I would have been tempted to have chosen for the original dark blue exterior and light blue interior.

Nevertheless I'm very happy with how the turquoise color turned out.

After seeing the results, I think I am going to do all the bumper brackets as well. It is actually a reasonably priced option when taking into account the time it takes to clean up the parts and then painting. The guy I used had me drop them off first thing in the morning and I picked them up on the way home from work.

Off to get a new heart. When I get back from a mini vacation, it should be ready to pop the hood on and go to the body shop (too bad I can't take it with me this week and hand it over to Chris).

Those hub caps and emblems look great...Well done!!  It's the little details that really make a car stand out.  Good enough does not always make a car shine.

As for steelies and dog dish caps...I've been running them for years.  Never had a set of aftermarket rims on any of my cars..except a set of cragars back when I was 16.  Other then that I've always run factory style rims, or steelies and dog dish caps.

(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)  If it can go wrong, it will.  Last minute decision to put on a new Eddy carb made more work. The freshly cleaned and painted intake has bores too small for the Eddy. We pulled the intake off the 440 and it's out to get cleaned and then repainted. That will be ready in the morning. Also threw a pertronix at him. He did a good job of engine bay clean-up today though.

Very nice! No criticism, because I don't know if true, but I keep
hearing bad things about Edelbrock carbs from a lot of sources, anyone
got experience? I know several guys who tried them and went back to
Holleys for example.

They are about equal, some adjustments for each may be needed, but overall they are a good carb, better for street applications than Holleys at times, maybe jsut a hair less performance oriented so good for a stock application. What size is it? a 413/440 should have at least a 650cfm rating for good running stock, barely warmed over cam application.

It's a 1411 Eddy (750 CFM) electric choke and we used a comp XE268H, and put in the Pertronix as well. Ran the same carb on my 69 300 and got acceptable performance and mileage.

I never had a problem with the one I used when I had my 68 Barracuda, had the 850, converted to electric chock, ran like a beast, that built 360 , loved all that CFM it was getting, never had a response problem, like the Holley that was on the engine for break in.

Edelbrocks are usually better for stock applications and mild mild street, Holleys are better for more heavy duty racing, but still, properly tuned, do well with stock to rock and roll racing. It's all in the tuning and diagnosing, Edelbrocks tend to be a little easier to adjust, Holleys have more sizes to choose from.

Looking great Peter! So are you going to drive it down here on your next trip to Arizona?

Probably won't drive it down, but could well be in the trailer to use as our transportation when we are stopped. We are thinking of doing a tour of the south again, and still want to do Route 66 east of Albequerque. For this year I will most likely have it in Ontario for my daughter's wedding, but will be arriving about two days too late for Moparfest(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif).

She is definitely gorgeous (except for the wires hanging around all over the passenger side , hahahaha), and the only thing that looks a little off, knowing the before pictures, is why the one tone door panels? Just thinking the top part being blue would fit rather nicely, but that's just me, still love the new look!

I think I am going to get sick.  Well maybe not, the Diamond is still in the rough

I just had a thought while installing the carpet. Why not run a few wires from under the dash to the trunk before the carpet goes down? I threw in 4 16 guage 2-conductor shielded cables and 3 14 guage for power considerations as I might add a trunk mounted stereo and may change the manual retractable antenna for a power unit.
The door panels are the 'L' panels in pearl white. What is missing is the aluminum insert at the top centre. I was missing one of the 300 emblems and have left them off for now. Should I ever get a nice set, I will probably put them back on. One advantage of not having the metal trim pieces is that it is not so hot on your arm.

Shows you what I know about the interior packages and such. Still looks very nice, one to be very proud of.

Lea, the wedding is in Cambridge. That is soooooooooooo close for Moparfest. We'll be there for about three weeks, staying in the Campbelville KOA. I'll let you know if I will be bringing it.  She's all packed up to transport to my son's wedding for some pictures.

Congrats to the Bride and Groom.
Peter you must be one proud Papa for two reasons-your son and your car.
Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words. Getting her ready now for the trip to Ontario. Got the last window operational (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif) and ordered the top boot. I'm having it shipped to my daughter's place and will install it when I get there. Still debating on replacing the shifter handle with one that has a slight forward bend so it doesn't sit on the buddy seat in 2nd and 4th. Sure is nice to drive it after 5 years though.
