Title: Carter BBD 2bbl - worn clip?
Post by: Wilfred on April 19, 2010, 09:03:20 PM
There's a chamber on the Carter BBD (that I am rebuilding) which holds a clip with a copper head or something on it

I mean the metal strip with RUFLEX written on it.

Second question... I see the previous owner removed a screw that removes the play from the acceleration pump (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif) since we have a metric system over here I have to order the screw. Does anyone know what the measurements are for that screw?

It's the black hole on the square lever in the front room (on the picture right). Thanx guys!

As I recall, they had an non-standard thread.  You might be able to re-tap it with a bottom tap and put a Metric screw in there.  Unless you are going for 100% restore.

I forget what that reed is for. . . .  Long time since I saw one of those.  That carb is probably from the mid 70's

I'm sorry. . I didn't answer the question.  Maybe Ed knows what that is.  He's younger.

The flex piece looks like it may be temperature reactive.  It was a smog device in it's day.  I'm almosy inclined to say plug the hole in the body and forget it.

How it works and when I don't remember.  I'd have to find a manual from that area and refresh my memory.

Well I'm using this setup as very temporary - just to make it drivable - so it's no 100% #-matching restore ;)

Wait on that valve until we hear from a few more people.

I will, don't worry, much oblige of thinking along with me! (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

* kits, components and (spare) parts for US cars aren't that available here in The Netherlands - although it depends on what you need and when.

Hot Idle compensator,  lots of Carters & some Holley's had em back then.    You could just close it off & the car would run fine.   I can't remember but if there's a small port in the chamber just block it,  stick the valve back in & put the cover plate back on.

Or just put the valve back in & the cover plate back,  probably still run fine but I just never trusted them to work right.

Thank you Butch!

I couldn't remember what the hell that thing did.  It's been forever since I saw one. . . .  At least I was right about just blocking it

Yeah, you can leave it the way it is, it is a simple hot vapor valve, but they don't do much, plugged is better than open.
