Title: Went for a drive
Post by: Jason Goldsack on March 18, 2010, 05:58:40 PM
Well... I finally got Eileen out the other day... had a terrible sound coming from rear drum on the passenger side.

Got her up in the air ( found out that you need to lift the body and let the axle droop to get the tire out  :( ) I pulled the drum off and the pads fell right off the shoes.. every little bit of it... grrrrrrr

I managed to get a set of shoes from NAPA ( $75.00). I took a picture with the digital camera and took it apart. I will now say ..I HATE DRUM BRAKES..

This is the first and last brake job I do... that sucks.

Anyways went for a nice drive... I really need to extend the tailpipes past the bumper cause I can really smell the exhaust coming up through the trunk. The seals are good.. but the car punch such a big hole in the air that the exhaust just swirls behind the car and comes in somewhere.

It was sure nice to hit the road with the old girl.. :)

Any damage to the drum??
I always check the brakes every spring before I go for a drive.

The drum has a bit of a groove in the middle but even across on the rest of the surface.

I think next year ( If I get working again at some time this millennium) I will put new drums all the way around. I think it's about time... and switch to a dual master cylinder
