Title: Sjak Braks victim.....
Post by: Jolanda on February 24, 2010, 12:31:24 AM
Hello everybody.
Sjak showed me this forum and told me that there are a lot of nice people overhere. :)
I hope so.....
I am a Dutch girl and since a year and half I am the proud owner of a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook. Found in a shed overhere. She didn't see the road for over 13 years.....
Now she's back on track! Still have to do some little things.....
My baby's arrival...

Almost finished...

And for the summer I share a 1958 Pontiac Chieftain.
I know it is not a Mopar, but it is still a lovely car.

WELCOME!!
Not many Cranbrook 2dr's left over here either.
Pretty rare car nowadays considering their survival rate.
Any friend of Sjak is welcome .
Are you the young lady posing in this pic?

CBarge, thanks. :)
I only have seen one other cranbrook overhere. And this one already goes under the name belevedere. The owner helped me to get my engine running.
And yes I am that very young victim in Sjak's pic. But I survived Count Brakula. I only cann't stand the sunlight anymore.....
Sjak is allways out of line.... That's why I like him.

And Sjak, nice to see your old buddy again. It look like his is in very good hands.

WELCOME!! - you'll enjoy the crazy people on here!!  Cool 53
Plymmie - you don't see many of them anymore, even here in the
US!  It seems like they got much bigger a couple years later...

And watch out for that Sjak/Jacques, he's a tricky one !!! ;-)

Flathead 6 Cyl, one of the most dependable engines ever made. And enough room inside to get in with a top hat on.

Cool! Now here they come..... (how much do you want?)
This are photo's when she just arrived. The outside is in pretty good condition, but the engine was bad... In 1993 she got her dutch registration number. We don't know a lot about her, only that she wasn't on the road for over 13 years when we got her. At first she was bought by my boyfriend and his good friend Moparton to get her back on the road and sell it again.... But for me it was love at first sight.......

More photo's of her arrival are here....
http://s391.photobucket.com/albums/oo360/devilmadeinheaven/Plymouth%20Cranbrook%201953/?start=0 (http://s391.photobucket.com/albums/oo360/devilmadeinheaven/Plymouth%20Cranbrook%201953/?start=0)

I am not that rich, so a total restoration is (for now) not possible. Maybe in the future she will get a totaly make-over. But I did all the things that where neccesary to get her back on the road. I removed all rust from the inside and trunk. Painted it. We worked on the engine, new "sparkingplugs?" New wire's and a lot more. I revised (hope the translation gave me the good word) the brakes. Off course I got help from boyfriend and Moparton and even from a man who ones a Cranbrook/Belvedere himself. So after some long nights working and trying to get her engine running again, she finnaly did it again. The wheels got new tires and a coating in the same color as the roof. She got new carpet, and finnaly we found on ebay a new (old) hood ornament. I still have to do some things. She won't reload the battery.... I will have to find out what the problem is with that. I have to connect the lights that are attached to my rear view mirrors. They are not orriginale, (she is 6v and they are 12v) but it looks cool on her. Ow yes and now the weather is getting better I will take her out for a cool bath. She is a bit dirty and dusty.....

Back on the road for the first time...
Not perfect but much better then it was..
The new carpet, kustom made. Very good stuff and for a really good price.
And finnaly her noose-job....

More photo's are on this site..

And here is a small video of her first day out. :)

Thanks but there is still a lot to do. :) But I am enjoying working on it.

The Pontiac belonged to a friend of mine. A few months ago my boyfriend and Moparton swapped a Chevy Two Ten Handyman for it. I bought Moparton's half Pontiac and now he is becoming my daily. (My boyfriend gets it on the weekends)
I really love Mopars and ofcourse I've rather had a 1958 Fury, Savoy or Belvedere, but the Pontiac was much cheaper. And still I love that car. I have a big weakness for fifties cars.
That is one of the reasons I like this forum.... I haven't seen any chargers or challengers yet. :D  And nobody makes fun of my Cranbrook.

Talk about pot calling the kettle black:  that '68 NYer ain't
'xactly no Road Runner! !! It was the car of choice of 68 year old
Bankers from Dubuque.  Of course - all of our C bodies were, my 71
F3 owner was more likely a Discount Store Assistant Manager with a big
family and good credit!  ;-)

Gnehehehehe :D
So there are more granny-cars overhere. :P
I know she is a grannie-car, but I still love her and the two of us together are looking great!
But overhere on the other side of the big ocean a lot of people are muscle-car minded.... some of them even think my little beauty isn't even a real Mopar.....

Some rods are works of art - that is one of them, wow! I wish modern car designers would take a cue from them!

Are you going to paint it? that Crannie might really stand out with a different color!

For the moment I don't have the money for a paint-job.
Maybe in the future. Shining Black with a little bit of pink. (I am a woman!)
The paint she has now is in pretty good condition. She only needs a good bath.
When the weather is good on wednesday I will wash her and make some new shining shots. :D

Sorry i'm a little late to say "hi" and "welcome". I'm glad to see another woman owning an early 50's car here (I own a 55 desoto).

I love your Cranbrook. It looks like it is in nice condition, and you've found just the place to help you get some more of the things you want to fix on it done. Lots of experience here from guys who are more than willing to dole out some good advice. You've accomplished a lot already; keep up the great job!
