Title: Discount rechroming
Post by: Leaburn Patey on February 04, 2010, 01:17:35 PM
I am going to Syracuse Saturday to Sandy's Bumper mart.
http://www.sandysbumpermart.com/index.html (http://www.sandysbumpermart.com/index.html)
Dropping off the BoaB's front bumper and Theo's 70 Newport 'vert bumpers.
My bumper will run 385.00.
Theo's bumpers run at 305.00 each.
CHEAP!!
What I really like is that is is within my driving distance, and CHEAP.
I will be borrowing a truck for the trip, and make a stop at Jack's to pick up more "contra ban" C body parts,LOL!!
I will let y'all know how this exprience turns out.

If they deliver a quality job as promised,we may have a good source at our disposal.

Yeah. . . But what kind of plating are you getting?  Inside and outside?  Tripple plated?

Get what you pay for. . .

If that's the case, I'll send my spare bumper up to your buddy there and you can have that redone if it's street ready.  All it has is some scratches in it.  It's NOS from your other buddy

Street chrome is what they are quoting.
New chrome is better than 40 year old dead chrome.

Yeah that's OK, but are they doing the inside of the bumper too?  I paid 3 times that for Polaraco's rear bumper and the inside wasn't even painted.  After 3 years, it's starting to rust.  The only way I can stop it is to take it off.  As Bob knows, that was a pain in the ass.

If this guy is doing both sides, I'll send up my spare and get it done

No, they do a good job for what you pay, from what I heard... lotsa
guys around here use them, it's only an hour from here... and not many
do that kinda bumper chrome jobs anymore. They will do my Packard
chrome when the time comes. The F3 will be run as-is. A bumper in "show
chrome": that is 3 stage nickel/copper/chrome, can cost upwards of a
Grand  these days... Paul's Chrome quoted me $1800 for my big 2
piece DeSoto front bumper!!! Yikes!!

I am not THAT familiar with that town..
Plus I will be driving Theo's black Chebbie truck.
(Theo is from Holland and only has a Canuckian visa as of now that does not permit him to cross the US border.)
Meet me at the bumper place, and I can follow you from there to Harbour Freight.
I would like to check it out, too.
I may be lucky to meet up with another member,Greg Willesey who lives in the 'Cuse area.
PM me .....

I told you guys about Sandy's Bumper Mart this past  December because they were running a 20% discount...Remember? Leaburn was bumming because he didn't have his passport yet. I took my 69 Fury bumper in at that time...My bill came to $304.00 + tax. I picked the bumper up a few weeks ago...It's beeeea-utiful!...The inside is chromed too. I'm a happy Moper(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)  They do run these specials in the summer too...I think he said August?...and will again next December. It's a Big savings boys...If ya can wait...I'd say wait.

Lea - I just talked to Tony there, he said he's open until noon - what time do you plan to be there?

Bob - he's running a sale until Feb 20 - they have them all the time...
I've known about Sandy's for years, a lot of guys here in Bingo area
use him, they do a decent job, are reasonable, and he's a nice guy too.(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

assume you saw some finished product while there...  let me know
when you're returning for pick-up and I'll try to meet you, if you have

Two hours from my house I arrived at Sandy's Bumper Mart
Good trip, good weather, and good tunes blasting on the sattelite radio.
Thanks to DelaT (my friend Theo) for letting me use his truck--plus I dropped off his bumpers for his 70 Newpie vert at the same time.

I met Sandy and his two sons,Tony and Alex.
Very hard to find people to work in a chroming place..it is more an art form than a trainable profession.
Tony was happy to show me around and allowed me to take pictures.
 Thanks Tony!!(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

Behind the wall of the drop off is the prep and finish area.
This is where all the grinding, straghtening, and final polish is done.
They do stainless steel polishing here as well.

Thanks,Bob for your feedback. Especially where you can be fussy--in a good way.LOL!!

I feel more confident in their work from your response, and seeing some finished product while I was there.
I agree that Tony and Alex are great guys to deal with.
They take pride in what they do and it shows.
Allowing me into the work areas shows they have nothing to hide.

Needless to say,for the 414.00 I spent,I am very happy.
The drive there and back is not bad at all and that alone is a piece of mind without the worry of the bumper getting damaged during shipping.

I would highly recommend Sandy's.
 A good family business.

Each.I only had the front done since I bought a rechromed rear a couple years ago.

I am going to treat the backside of the bumper before installation.
There are a few minor imperfections, but you really have to look for them and as a whole,it is nice!!.You will not notice the blems when it is on the car.
One of  the reasons it came out well is the bumper was a very good core to begin with--it is the original bumper to the Boab.
