Seeing one in real life gives a whole new perspective to Diesels.

I worked on the Sea Land Newark Class container ship engines about 20 years ago.  Solved a problem with cracking cylinders.

Gonna be b*tch to get that into the Valiant - probably easier to get the Valiant into the engine(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)

"2 stroke diesel" ...WOW!  hmmm,  always thought one of the
old GM-Detroit Pancake flat 12 cyl bus 2 stroke diesels would be very
interesting to put in a car... if it could be done somehow. Or my 18'
aluminum cabin boat.

I'll tell ya, I heard 2 12,000 HP 2 strokes idle for about 30 seconds.  They can't let them idle long because the harmonics will crack the hull.  Top speed for these big guys is only like 600 RPM.

Heck just put some big needle bearings in and rev 'er to 10,000!

My Dad was engineer on a WWII carrier and bunked next to the engine
room for 3 yrs... he said after the first year or so he got so used to
that vibration he couldn't sleep when she was down.

Just reading the shop manual on that engine..." cylinder head bolts - use 256/16th wrench, torque to 120 mile-pounds... make sure to use LOTS of locktite..."
