Title: 'splain this hump to me
Post by: Stan Paralikis on November 16, 2009, 04:06:49 AM
Here's a picture I found of the floor of a '72 Town & Country.
Notice the tranny tunnel with the hump on it.
The hump looks like it's positioned correctly for a four speed shifter.
I am not familiar with Fusie floors so I need to know more about it.

Do all Fusie flors have that hump?
Is that hump indeed to accomodate a 4 speed although no Fusie ever came with a manual floor shift?
COULD that hump accomodate a manual floor shift without going the whole tunnel hump route?

Well, I had a 72 T&C but I never pulled up the carpet... I'll look
today to see if the F3 has the same shape, since it's floors are nekkid
at the moment. ..it sure
looks stock, but my guess is it wasn't for a 4 spd and wouldn't
accomodate one. They had negligible market demand in that segment and I
doubt that they'd tool up for anything they had no intention of
producing if it cost them one extra nickel, Detroit beancounter
mentality being what it is.

Well it wasn't put there to accomodate a cup holder. (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)

I'll take a look - is there something on the TorqueFlite case that
sticks out there maybe? That's the only rationale for it that I can
figure.

Close. . .Floor shift automatics

The manuals needed a hump extension to clear the factory linkage

that hump is on all Mopars , but it's only cut on those that use a console shift automatic.  The shifter's torque shaft goes through there and a molded rubber boot bolts to the floor

That makes sense Bob.

The hump looked similar to those on the early '60s Chryslers that came with the 3-speed.  Those did not have the long throw and 3 shift levers of the 4-speeds, so a smaller hole was sufficient.  I thought perhaps that was what the hole was for, but Bob's answer looks feasible to me.
