Title: Pulling rear glass on a FL
Post by: firedome on November 09, 2009, 05:54:11 AM
Anyone ever pull rear glass on a ForwardLook? The problem is NO one
makes the gasket, so the existing one has to be re-used. Also FL 4 dr
hardtop glass and stainless is almost irreplaceable.  I need to
pull mine to fix the rear channel right, but no glass shop here will
even touch it... an' I'm a-feared to.(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)

On a 62 sedan, I pulled the chrome trim, unscrewed the clips that go through the rubber, pulled the center locking strip out of the rubber (you have to stick a cotter-pin removal tool in under it and work it loose) and once the lock strip was out the window came out easy....you have  to put outward pressure on it but it will pop out.

No dopey! The thing from Sears that looks like a scratch awl with the end bent at a 90 deg angle......sheesh

You have to dig the lock strip out of the sealant the factory smeared in there. BTW if anyone is looking for the F&R gaskets for a 60- 62 Newport sedan (low rear window) or whatever else they fit....I got 'em (glass not included)

I had seen Jack Forkey spray a full can of PB blaster on the rubber gasket and glass.
He let it sit for a day or so and then pulled the glass out and no damage to  the gasket or glass..

The metal trim strip wraps around the gasket like a C on these 57-9 FLs. Looks like a special tool

might be needed...
