Title: Booster Leak?
Post by: Dan Cluley on July 22, 2009, 09:06:13 PM
Messing around with the Chrysler, I have discovered that applying the brakes causes a drop of about 1.5" of vacuum and about 50-75 RPMs.  Is this a sign of a problem with the booster, or is that normal?

I've experienced that three times in the past.  All were the first signs of the booster going out.  Didn't know it the first time, hoped "I hadn't just felt that" the second time, and pulled the booster immediately the third time.

It could be something else, however.

Are you hearing "air" at the same time the RPM drop?

You might hear a wooosh when applying the brake too.

Check valves are common on those too

Had a booster leak on the inside around the shaft...only leaked when you applied the brakes...was very hard to hear and took me some time to figure out.
