Front and rear air.  That's so rare you could ebay just the unit and get your money back.

I think I can come up with the money within the month or so, but the problem would be getting it here from the OK state. Maybe he'll take a deposit and let me pick it up a month later or something. I showed my husband the pics, and he likes it. Good sign! I'll convert him yet...

I am going to inquire w/ the owner and see if I can get some shots of the interior... including that dual AC. How cool!

I'd like to see you get it. Make him a decent offer when you can pay for it in full.  He'll probably be more than willing to store it for you for a while.  Good luck. Keep us posted.

Good news! Car is still available and owner is sending me more pictures this afternoon. I am writing up a list of questions to ask when i give them a call later on. This car might be a Coronado, but I need to verify. Only 2 colors on her, but it's possible it could have been repainted (ad says all original, tho). Who knows.

I've got 1/2 of the money saved. If i can unload that rambler for a few hundred, that would help. Owner said that it would be no problem to hold vehicle until pickup once payment was received.

I thought the coronado had the tri-tone paint? black, turquoise, and white. I'm kind of giddy. My husband really likes this car, and I am itching to start working on something again. I hate to get my hopes up, but I am starting to want this thing more and more!

I thought Corundo was Dodge and Chrysler.  I know thay had the Corondo in 56 on Chrysler

They also had one in 54. The firedome, I believe.

Update: I spoke with the LADY who owns this car (:)!!) and she confirms that it is, in fact, a coronado. The interior is shot in this thing. There is also hole in the drivers floorpan about the size of a dinnerplate.

Apparently this car is one rare bird. A 2-tone coronado (!?). It's fully optioned, and someone who i've been talking to that knows more about these things is telling me that he wouldn't consider it far-fetched to say that this might very well be a 1-of car. Uhh... you had me at HELLO!

Once I get the price-tag settled, I'll be gearing up for her journey home.

Not all Coronados were 3 tone - John Fowlie has a 2 tone one in nothern
Cali... they were built like tanks in 55 and 56, a fair number of them
have survived. Great cars... this one would have the dash mounted lever
Poweflite.

Correct.  56 was the first Push Button as I recall

I double checked, I was wrong,  John's car is a 3 tone, so that
may be a super rare variant, if indeed an original Coronado - I'd ask
over at the National DeSoto Club website, they'd know for sure. Just
google it.

DeSoto Coronado
The DeSoto Coronado was a trim option on the 1954 Firedome and 1955 Fireflite 4-door sedans (if available on other styles I'm not aware of it). 1955 Coronados were only 4 door Fireflite sedans in three colors, black, turquoise and white.
Leslie Howard wrote: The 1955 DeSoto Fireflite Coronado was only available in the tri-tone color scheme (with a bright green, white top, and black side-spear) or turquiose, white, and black in any main, roof, sweep combination. They featured the Fireflite Sportsman leather and cloth interiors on them, which were not available on the standard Fireflite sedans.
Try and find out if the interior is/was leather.Commando12009-06-02 10:50:31

Also, wouldn't the Coronados have the script on the fenders?

One of the badges is on the fenders. Who's not to say that it wasn't put there by someone else, though. The interior is the correct white leather and turquoise cloth. This interior was also available in the sportsman. I'll have to decode my info plate on the firewall (did they have them in 55?) and see what it says. I found codes, but they are all in reference to the coronado green/surf white/black tri-tone paint combination. I'd like to get ahold of chrysler historical before they are gone, and get some information on the car. Will have to do that soon!

PS. I put a downpayment on the car today. The seller is holding until I am able to transport the car-- likely in August.

Owner confirmed the script hanging off t he fender to be the coronado badge.

I am waiting for the owner to email me the VIN # and the data plate from the cowl. Time to do some homework and get to the bottom of that 2-tone mystery. Right now I am trying to organize my information so I can develop a pretty good game-plan.
Eventually i'll be yankin' on stitcher bob's ear while trying to sew new seat covers, but i've always wanted to learn how to do interior work. First thing is first, though: I need to get the mechanical end smoothed out before the fun/glitzy stuff.

Mystery solved. Car was repainted at one time as the data plate shows. Code 431 indicates a black roof, surf white body, and coronado green sweep.

They were anticipating California's proposed ban on black cars. (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)

I am thinking along the lines of maximizing AC efficiency. Or.. they just didn't like the 3-tone. :)
