Title: 62 self canceling turn signals
Post by: Jon Doersch on May 01, 2009, 09:17:28 AM
Does anybody know how the self canceling turn signals work on a 62 Newport? The switch works but only self cancels rarely. And since it isn't part of the column, I have had a hard time tracing the mechanics of it...

The one on my '62 never self-cancelled and I knew of no device that would do so.  As far as I know, they do not self-cancel; you must do it yourself.  Of course, mine could have been broken, but I don't think such a device existed.

There is a switch at the bottom of the steering column that does the canceling.  It's connected to a 2 or 3 wire harness.  It releases the signal with a small coil.

So its a wiring/electrical cancel? That would make sense that it doesn't work then, as the electrical gremlins come and play with my Newport all the time....
