Title: What kind of hitch is this???
Post by: Leaburn Patey on April 30, 2009, 02:03:25 PM
I was looking at an 80 Volare wagon today and I never seen a trailer hitch that attaches to the rear axle before. Also has a coil spring mounted on the right side of the axle with the rubber stop stuck inside it.
So,when the car moves up and down--so does the hitch??
Wierd and does not look safe.
Only a piece of chain bolted to the bumper holding the tongue load (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif)
My friend says the cars handles better than his new car.
HHmm wonder why? it is an oversize sway bar,IMO!! LOL!!
What you guys think? ever see one like it??

That look similar to the sway-bar set-up on the trailer my folks had, so I'd believe him.  Not too shabby for a "home-bake" solution (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif)

Meant to be some kind of weird load equalizing hitch maybe? That chain
attachment is pretty funky. Looks home brew to me.  Never seen one
like that, and we've pulled boats and horse trailers for decades.... we
just had air shocks on our '73 Custom Sub and '77 Gran Fury for horse
& boat duty. Worked great.
