Title: heater hoses
Post by: Jon Doersch on April 25, 2009, 12:18:52 PM
Can anyone tell me how to route the heater hoses on a two core heater system? Only one is hooked up right now in my 62 newport... ardog2009-04-26 14:22:34

Head, it's not that you have two cores, it's that the coolant flows from the core into the control valve.  I thought my '62 NY had two cores too, until I pulled the vale to make it work and saw what the deal really is.

Having said that, I can't answer your question right off the top of my head.  I DO know that one hose goes from one side of your water pump into the first hole on the right of the core, and the other returns to your pump from the valve end.  However, which one goes where on the pump is what I need to see.

I had a schematic, but I gave the Service Manual to our Fearless Leader when I sold him the car.  I will see if I have it in the '64 Chilton's Book I have at home.

The 'pressure'-hose from the waterpump goes in the lowest core-inlet. (This is to prevent air in the system)
The top core-outlet goes into the heater-valve and the another hose goes from the other valve outlet back to the waterpump.
I don't know which outlet on the waterpump is the 'pressure'-side. I *think* the higher one, nearest to the pump itself.

I think that's right.  That's a 62 Chrysler 300H Vert

Cool...the hoses on my newport completly bypass the heater valve; thats how they were when I bought the car, and the heater still blows warm. So...what does the heater valve do?

Heater valve controls the water flow to the core.

The ones in the 62's are pretty elaborate.  For some reason.

The valve was either not working or leaked.  They're quite a pain to remove, but far from impossible.  The previous owner probably did not want to mess with it.
