Title: Push Button Trans
Post by: Andy on April 12, 2009, 08:48:15 AM

The very least this "resto" shop could've done was point a gun at me while they robbed me! GEEZE! How stupid was I?  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif) (Don't answer that! (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif))

I drove this car to their shop. I got it back on a trailer in pieces and boxes with LOTS of parts missing! Now it's parts for the trans. What connectes the push buttons for the trans to the trans? Cables? I've got the buttons and the mechanisim that goes in the dash, but nothing else after that.

Wonder what will be missing next!?

Wish I could go back to that shop and (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley22.gif)till I was tired!

A cable goes from the shifter box on the dash to the trans where it enters a hole in the case. It has to be a 1965 and earlier trans to have that hole. The last year for pushbuttons was 1964 and 1965 was a changeover year where a control box took the column shift and converted it to cable operation so that trans would work. 1966 was the year they went with the regular shift lever mounted on a shaft on the trans. Imperial services has what you need for cables or adapters.

63 to 65 were two cable transmissions

You can get a new cable from ImperialIndustries.com (?)

OK so there's 2 cables to control shifting? I see they also have a park cable. That would be a third cable for Park or is one of the 2 cables for park? I'm confused, and it's getting easier to do that! (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)

If you have a 63 to 65, yes there is 2 cables.

You have that 63 with the Hemi right?  That's the aluminum trans.

65 was a year by itself because it was the first year of the slip yoke, but last year for the cable shift and park.

Steve over at Imperial can fix you up.
