Title: Pics of 58 Plymouth data tag and decode please
Post by: Mike on March 09, 2009, 07:20:47 PM
I would like to learn the data tag decode process and I keep hearing about the data tag being located on the passenger side of firewall and some are finding theirs on the driver's side, could someone post a picture of an engine compartment that shows the data tag (NOT BODY NUMBER TAG) ?

Also, could someone post a picture of a 58 plymouth data tag and then decode the numbers ?

Thanks for any help !

Mike

My book only goes back as far as 60

But I know the vin tag is inside the drivers door jamb between the hinges.

From what I've heard, only the LA built 58 Plymouths put the body tag on the passenger side of the firewall....all others, Windsor, Evansville, Detroit and Newark put the body tags on the drivers side. Unfortunately, I don't know of a decoder anywhere for the driver side body tag...Even Plymouth Central doesn't list it, however they list a decoder for the passenger side body tag...Sorry...

Have a look for yourself...go to the left and click on 58 model info.

Got another thought....go to this website, (Golden Fin Society) and contact Jack Lewis and ask him...maybe he'll know....

Just wondering if my suspicions/thoughts are correct on the passenger side body tag being an LA built Plymouth...Was yours built in LA??
