Title: A question for the moderators...
Post by: Tim Kelly on February 16, 2009, 10:33:03 AM
Is there an easy way for you to collect the member data for Moparfins by their location?

The reason I ask is, if you are able to pull this information, and find an area that is cental to all members, put out a poll to everyone to get an idea of who would be willing to drive to this location, and to see if we could get enough interest to have our own meet.

I know a C body get together has been discussed before on the Dry Dock, but I don't think there was much interest. Maybe now it is different.

It is up to the members themselves to give their location.
It is not a requirement, but it would be nice to no where they holler from.
As  for the C gathering, there has been lots of interest, but Kansas City is too far for me and for other members..
Keep in mind--Moparfins is more about than just C bodies.
However, given the large geographic spread of members,it can be a daunting task.Add life's daily grind, conflict of schedules it is not an easy thing to organize.
We have members all across North America from coast to coast--and members over in Europe.
Take this for an example;I just read in Mopar Action the one-time-only meeting of all the Hemi factory race cars.
Why one meeting ? It took years to get all owners to get involed and oraganize a time and place. They were all so spread out and agreed only to meet once given the complicated logistics of gathering everyone into one central location.
For me personally, I am not 20 years old anymore and a long drive can burn me out. After 6-12 hours driving I may not really get to enjoy myself and other's company.
Carlisle is just about about the right distance for me.New Jersey is a no brainer--did it twice. Detroit,no problem. All are 6-7 hours.Any further I will need a sponsor to help with the gas, hotels, and food---LOL!! Oh,and a licenced co-pilot if we want to keep going 24/7
As much as I would love to show my car in Arizona,British Columbia,or anywhere in the vast continent we live on,it will take me weeks of driving to do it.
Calgary? 5 days. Vancouver? a week.Arizona? Ten days--one way.
My dream one day is to do Route 66 from end to end.But that will be a retirement drive when I will be able to afford it and have the time to do it.

Before you retire you have the money but not the time.
After you retire you have the time but not the money.
Life is very unfair....

Wifey and I did the portion from Santa Fe NM to Santa Monica a few years ago in the 69 300 vert. We spent three weeks, but should have had at least twice that to do it justice. Looking forward to the Chicago to Santa Fe stretch.

CBarge, I agree. The thought of driving cross country for a car meet is most likey out of the question for just about anyone, and yeah, a trip like that would sure put a big hole in my pocket too.  I was just trying to get an idea where there may be a higher concentration of our members, say, maybe to coordinate getting together at a show like the Nats, Carlise, or the Woodward Dream Cruise, if forming our own meet would be easier said than done. Being from the midwest, these are the "big"ones that come to mind. I'm not familiar with any other car shows that would attract alot of people, so maybe forming some type of notification of events on this site would be an idea. Then anyone can pick and choose the which one to go to. How about adding a "Who's Going" link, or something, when the event is posted. Then we'd know who's going to be there. Just a thought.

Well, there are already a few that meet in Carlisle.
All the 70 Polara convertibles meet there each year.
Usually a dozen or so get together.
My good friend Pete Theilman has a yellow/green guts 318 'vert  drives his every year down there with his wife driving her 71 Imp behind him.
Carlisle does get assaulted by a barrage of big Mopars.
Maybe we can all show up and wave our Moparfins flag..Only if P and Mobby can get one made up with T shirts!!(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif)
I have been to shows wearing my Dry Dock hat and people look out for me--it works!
I also like where the cards you get when registering allow you to write what forum/club you belong to.

Maybe do a regional meet?  NE, SE, SW... seems like there's concentrations in those areas.

And yes, it'd be nice to see some fins! ... are Steve ('59 NYer) and I
('58 FireSweep), and maybe Bob ('58 Fury soon?) the only ones here
since Rick traded his '57 Fury vert for a sorta-fin '61 Dodge... who
else has a finny car???  A '60 Chrysler in Holland as I recall?

That's a 58 Saratoga and for sale.  No more fins after that one. . . .  Although, all I need to do is finish the wiring and fix the power seat to drive it.

That do is Herman.

We had a gathering here at my house last August.  I think you knew that.

It seems like we have this question every Spring - can we meet together.  I think the answer is "No, we cannot schedule a date and place that wll fit for the majority of the people on this site."  Therefore, I suggest that all regional shows be posted on a seperate thread with a follow-up question - "Who's going?"

For instance, Spring Fling in Van Nuys is on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-6.  Who's going?

---Not me, can't make it this year - sorry boys.

March Meets, Famoso Raceway, MArch 6-8, who's going?

--- I am!  I'll be there on Saturday; any one want to meet?

Western Street Rod Nationals, Kern County Fair Grounds, Friday-Sunday April 24-6, who's going?

--- I am on Saturday; any one want to meet?

Now, if you can be at one of these events say so and let's make a date!

"58 Saratoga"  - 58?  I thought your finny car was the AIG challenged '59?  Pics on here somewhere?

"We had a gathering here at my house last August. I think you knew
that"... I did, and I was up on Lake Champlain in VT, as I am almost
every weekend and many weeks,  between May and October... it's 3/4
built, and not gonna get done unless I do it!  I got on the beach
exactly once last summer and my old Starcraft hasn't been in the water
for 2 years...   :-(

My point being only that local get-togethers are more practical than
national meets, most big clubs like WPC have "regions" and regional
meets. Their meets are great btw.

I want to get the T shirts rolling first.  I told P the other night by Mid May.  The prices they were coming up with were way too high.

Would you pay $25.00 for a T shirt?

I lose 29  cents on each dollar  OUCH!
When it was at par or close to it  during last summer and fall I was on a shopping spree.
I am glad I got what I needed (eeerrrrm wanted) when I did.
