Title: Popping from driver door bottom hinge
Post by: Ken on January 29, 2009, 01:03:21 PM
This has me kinda stumped, as occasionally the drivers door will hang-up when trying to close, and it feels like the bottom hinge is in some way involved, but I can't see anything obvious when looking down at it while moving the door open and shut.

Lea, Steve, anyone, any ideas as to a way to either better identify what exactly is the problem, or how to address it short of having the outer fender taken off? (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif)

Step one:  Lube the %^$# out of it with grease.
------Did this solve the problem?
-----------Yes. Go to next project.
-----------No.   Go to step two.
Step two:  Wail the %^$# out of it with a #3 BFH.
------Did this solve the problem?

Well, I sprayed down everything in sight with "dry" lube, even tried to "massage" the strut the wheel rides on, but there ain't much room to get to the wheel itself.

I'm thinking the wheel and/or the roll pin that holds it into place are really worn.

Oh joy (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley29.gif)

I get the distinct impression (on my forehead yet! (http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/images/smilies/banging.gif)) that until the door is REMOVED from the car  the problem won't get fixed....

It very well could be worn out. . .

Dry lube isn't going to cut it.  Tell me.  Does it pop when it's raining out?  Or don't you drive it then?  You need to use some real oil in there.  White grease lube drys out and can't penetrate.  Try to hit the wheel with some PB Blaster.  It will only last a few days, but it will get in there and tell the story.  If that works, get in there with an oil can and some real oil.  Home cheapo has an oil can with a flex neck.  Then you don't have to get those Ham Hocks of yours in the Jam.

Be careful. . I wouldn't want one of those Pacific winds blowing the door shut on those hands. . .Some poor guy may not get his benefits!

Stan. . .there's always Plan D

Moe, did you ever find out why your passenger door would not fully close?

Scott, I think it was due to the car having a full load.  It hasn't done it since (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif)  Weird.
