Title: Need some help with a Carb I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS
Post by: Steve on January 10, 2009, 03:16:28 PM
I need to find out what the bolt center is on the baseplate of a 51 Chrysler 6 Cyl carb

Manual says it's a Ball & Ball  E9A-1

Did you figure things out Steve?

Do you not have the manifold it bolts onto?  It's a 2 bolt base plate right?  Could you not get the measurements form the manifold?

OK  I got the carb kit today.  4 bucks  what a deal

The base plate on the 251 1 BBL is 2 3/4 center.  That adaptor is 2 /5/8.  I can drift the holes with an end mill in my drill press.

But ultimately, if this doesn't get too expensive, I am buying this

You could get a stock dual carb set-up on some of the heavy duty trucks in that area with the bigger flatty 6's as well.

I bet she'll sell for close to $200....(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif)

Paid more than I wanted, but I got it.  I really went on a spending frenzi tonight.  My sock drawer is empty now.

And I am going to put it in this.  I was talking with Lea and I decided to get the 51 running and stopping, wash it up and off the car.

The new engine is going into below.  It's actually worth more than the 51 in the books.  The interior is in much better shape.  This one comes with an engine and a full front clip, rear fenders.  The floors are solid and over all nicer.  Few more rust spots but less in outside costs for me to get decent.

OK  I got out of the manifold.  Now I am on the hunt for the right one

Here's the question

Is the 195o Dodge 230 Flat head the same block, intake, ect. as the 50 Chrysler 251?

I don't have the materials here that are old enough

Hey Stan

Thanks for the help last night.  Sorry I had to cut you short. . . .  Well you know. . .

Anyway, I find I need the Offenhauser 2374.  But I can't find any information on the linkage kit you are showing anywhere.  Is that showing in the info you found as part of the intake kit or os it an option?

At Offyparts.com, they show the manifold and the hardware as one package.

Done deal and ordered.  Summit didn't have the linkage kit to go with that manifold.  So your boy was the one I ordered it through.

Thanks very much for the help

I located all the parts I need for the engine too.  Brand new everything

Thanks Bob

Unfortunately, I cannot find an intake for a 25" motor.  The only ones available are for a 23" motor.

I contacted a bunch of people looking for an intake.  The old timers told me there weren't too many around and will be extremely hard to get.

However, I found a guy who will split one for me for $145, and will split an exhaust manifold too.  He can also make me a complete bolt on linkage set up.  Not sure if I want to go through the hassles of the duel exhaust, but the dual intake will give me 40 more horse power.  If I do a trick cam, (Located one) Dual Exhaust, and twin carbs, I can gut up to 170 HP.  I also found a HEI ignition Distributor for it too, but can't use that.  It was said that would give me 10 more HP.

I can't use the distributor because the car is going to have to stay 6 Volt because of the transmission.  I supposed I could go 12 volt, and throw in a transformer to step down to 6 volt.  Then I can tap for the gauges and run the trans on 6 volt, while the rest is 12 volt.  That makes more sense to me really. . . .

Transmission?    Why no 12v ?    OD unit?   solenoids don't care on those.
