Title: Converting the AutoTemp II
Post by: Stan Paralikis on January 05, 2009, 10:50:32 AM
OK.  I can't stand the AutoTemp II.  I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.
I am going to convert it to manual A.C. just as God intended before Engineers thought they were God.
I bought the manual A.C. controls out of a minivan.  Fit-wise it's a direct replacement. See pics.
OK.  Now what the (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gif) do I do with it?  I looked at the service manual and it makes no sense to me.
Somewhere, somehow, somebody MUST have done this already.  Has it been written up anywhere?

(And Bob, if you send me a link from MoparAction, I'll kill you...(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif) ).

Or am I heading into uncharted waters, writing the conversion manual myself, become a millionaire, and say Good Bye to all you poor folk?

You need a heater valve I am pretty sure

All the damoers need to be replumbed.  If memory serves me correct (Now we're in toruble)  The plumbing config was the same across the board in B's and C's.  From the late 60's to the early 80's.  They use the same vacume switch.  (There's no hint in that one is there)

SO!  You need the vacuum diagram and a vacuum tube harness from something recent.  I am not too sure the Squirt Van will work the way you would like.

I really have to see it to refresh my memory.

Let me see the other side of the switches. . .A bit closer

Pretty sure your going to need a coplete vacuum hose harness from a regular A/C car....the whole switch adn harness from the Auto Temp II system will not function properly with the other switch.

I know the heater/A/C box's are different as well but you may be able to make it work....Shrug, Shrug, Shrug...

Damn and I just tossed one a few weeks ago too.

All I know is....Auto temp SUCKS!!!on that we agree. I had one and spent a lot of money on it to get it to work right and it did, once for a couple of hours.

The main problems are the ampliphiers and the main water control units...you can have both rebuilt with a lifetime guarantee through the Imperial website...not cheap but once it's done you should have no more problems....just a suggestion.

Hooking up the compressor circuit to the on/off switch is a no brainer.  Attaching a manual valve to the temp. control cable is also a no-brainer.  Even I can handle that.

IT's everything else. (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley29.gif)
