Title: Raised white letter tires
Post by: Tim Kelly on November 04, 2008, 01:55:33 PM
The tires on my 69 300 vert are about due for replacement. I drove this car alot this year and it is time to replace the bolony skins it's currently wearing.
The current tire is 235R/75/15 with a 1" WW. I want to replace them w/ raised letter tires, but can only find 235R/70/15. BF Goodrich, Uniroyal and Goodyear all make this size but not in 75.
Are there any other mfg's making this size or is the 70 the way to go?

If you want a 23575R15 in a white letter, you will end up buying a truck/SUV tire.
23570R15 will work fine on your Fusey.

When talking to the clerk at the tire shop I got the impression this size is a common size for trucks and not cars too. I just wanted to check with the experts here to confirm it.

If I could post some pictures from here in the office I'd show you my '70 Newport with TA Radials on it.  I have them mounted on Slotted Mags.  Fogel has them on his 300-Hurst with Chrysler Road Wheels.  Both look great!  I recommend them!  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)

The "70" in the size is just a little wider tire than the "75" otherwise its pretty much the same tire. I think you will be very happy with them.

A 75 tire has a higher profile than a 70; 70 is wider.  I would not put 70s on a rim that is smaller than 6.5" wide.  They work great on 7" rims.

Here's my car when I first mounted the wheels and tires.  I wish I had gone with a size or two larger.  Fogel used a larger size after seeing mine, and they look more "correct," if that makes sense.

That is one great looking car - I love the clean sides with minimal trim. And it's green!!

I appreciate the comments, but that last one hurts.  You must not know that I dispise this color.  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif)  If I can ever afford it, I am going to return the car to its original Silver, or Metallic as the Chrysler Fliers called it.

Thanks, just the same!  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif)

Yeh, I'm one of the weirdos that lieks green, must be because the best
car I ever owned  - my '71 Fury III - was that color. I do think
that '70-71 was the zenith of C body design...!

I agree, but must toss '69 in there as well!

Honestly, I never thought I would even own one of these '70 Newport ragtops due to the low number of production.  I always thought I'd own a '69 if I ever had one at all.

But not green.....

'69 too for sure! Especially Chrysler & Dodge, the '69 Plym looks too much like a '66 Chevy to me!

Look at the back end!!  Front too for that matter...

Look below and you'll see I've got RWLs on my R-body New Yorker and they look great (at least, I think they do).  I agree with the prior poster who said to drop a profile size - forget 75 profile tires and go with 70s.  They'll work just fine and you won't have to use truck tires.

Looks good!  I've always liked RWL tires.  I even put them on my wife's Stratus once.  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif)

Snotty, when you get yer Newport painted silver, I need to get both of my GTX's painted the same, Silver metallic.......I checked the fender tags and both show AA1 silver metallic!    the 68 is now black and the 69 is Frost Green metallic.......why morons change original colors is beyond me.....makes life tough for us not fast, but half fast restorers

Love those wheels!  They are going for big bucks at local Mopar shows!

Steve, I didn't know that about your Xes.  I wonder if we could find a local shop that would do us a "Three-for-one" paint shoot?  I'm game!!  After all, they wouild only need to purchase one batch of the same color paint.

However, we would need to find a shop where the owner LIVES until the job is FINISHED! (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)
