Post by: firedome on October 23, 2008, 05:31:13 AM
Wasn't sure WHERE to put this since there's no Car Wanted section...
Want a classic Mopar driver, but something that will do better than 12
mpg... for you guys/gals, if in your travels or searches  you see
one of the below Mopars, please let me know!

Looking for solid driver with 318, Slant 6: prefer 1975-1976 DODGE
CORONET/PLYMOUTH FURY 4 DOOR, for the '70s safety features and mid-size
for regular use...No rust,  or minimal cosmetic (panel) rust only
please... will also consider a 77-78 Monaco/Fury, or 79-81 R body
(Newport etc). but really want 75-76 B body. Kindly phone at 607
754-0031 or eMail : firesweep"at"verizon.net

thanks all, Roger A.(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

Stan, depends on the car of course, but I'd think with some luck I
should be able to get a decent one for 1200- 1500 or so, and a real
nice one for 2500-3000. But who knows... I'd like to find one with
under, say, 80,000 miles... I've seen a couple on Craiglist, and
there's one in NC now with 42K miles for $3000obo, but he hasn't
replied to me yet.  I do all the usual crazedlist & jaxed
searches, but figured someone might see one in a car lot  or in a
local paper or Pennysaver.

I'd really like a /6 but I like 318s too, the sixes are pretty rare in mid '70s B bodies it seems.

How about a nice 72 Polara for 4 grand

What it needs done, comes with the car.  It's so little it's incredible.  Drive it home

Steve, I wasent talking about the car, just the engine, the car itself is returning back to the earth as we speak.

Shame that it's going to ground... /6 "B" bodies seem to be real rare,
after about 1970 or so... OK Steve...you mean the Virgin?  it's a
360, as I recall?  I imagine the difference between a 360 and 318
gas mileage-wise is pretty much negligible... but actually, the big
problem is the wife: she sees a full size car, what we would call a
real car - and she freaks at the thought of driving it. She's tiny, 5
ft tall on a good day... she loves her '70 MG...  I can't even get
in or out of that da..m thing!  The B body appears to be somewhat
less intimidating to her size-wise.

Cool cars all, thanks guys!! - it's gotta be 4 door for a daily driver.
And my last car with a 400V-8  got 12 mpg only with a tailwind
while driving down Pikes Peak.  I'm shooting for high teens,
hopefully.  Had a '72 Demon, great car, but it had a back seat fit
only for midgets with sawed-off legs. I find Dippy's a bit small too,
being 6'1' and 240.  Got a mind-set for a '75-'78 "B body 4 door",
really.  My old '79 Newport was pretty close, the  same car
underneath pretty much, but the styling is kinda boring and plasticky,
for sure, and they don't seem as well put togther for some
reason.  I saw it still chugging down the road just last year,
though!

yellow '77 Fury with hi comp  heads 440 and still had the special
cop Goodyear radials... DAY-UM!  could that car go like stink and
handle!!!  Got about 9 mpg though!

Mid-70's B body sedans can be found with a /6 up here in Canada. They are more common up here since most ,when new,had the /6 as standard equipment. But try finding one today in good shape is almost impossible.

Maybe an engine transplant from a Canuck /6 car into a good body car
with tired engine would be in order... amazingly, one does see really
nice cars somtimes in strange places - like with people that moved from
out West and such.  I've seen some like new cars even here in NY.

Be interesting to see what it brings - I have a hunch the bad economy
will start affecting prices soon,  if it hasn't already.
