Title: Guess who's been driven?
Post by: Ken on August 15, 2008, 08:49:01 PM

Oh yeah!  Take a peek...as seen from the INSIDE of where I work, taken last Friday
(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/attachments/13/August-08-2008_001.jpg)

Here's a better shot, outside
(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/attachments/13/August-08-2008_002.jpg)

My co-worker, Juliegh, parked on my left to help portect Chaz from getting any door dings.  She's cool, had a Camaro as her first car and got to work on it with her father, so she appreciates cars, and if one couldn't tell from her license plate, she's a HUGE Disney fan.  LOVES going to Disneyland when ever possible, has been to DisneyWorld and EuroDisneyland, too.

Anyway, I took a shot of the car that night, and while it was a little blurry due to my not being able to hold it steady while the aperture was open, I think it's kinda cool, in a nighttime fair ride kinda way.

I also have electronic ignition installed, which will later get tucked onto a bracket that will mount on the rear valley pan rail, but in the mean time it will stay here.

I just got the car back today from a recommended shop that replaced the starter relay for me (I know I could have done it, but it's been over 105 freakin' degrees the past 2 days here! Gimme a break! (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif)) and also did some
finer adjustments to the carb for the fast idle, and made sure the
timing was good , and it was adjusted to 11 BTDC (instead of the 5 BTDC for CAP
car, which is FINE with me), with 36 degrees total.

They also found my #5 cylinder is running at  a lower compression than everything else, and hopefully it's just a build-up of carbon.  I'll get an oil change done, maybe add some Marvel Mystery Oil to the case, and a bottle of Techroline to the tank and do a road trip (Hmmmmmmmm...Scotty???)

Oh, I saw this just don the street from the shop, and figured it was a cool thing (a visual pun, if you will) (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

I gotta say, the car runs almost perfect right now, with a barely perceptible stumble from said #5 cylinder, and now that the alternator has been upgraded to a 60A unit, since the 45A unit was toast, I'm a lot more comfortable about driving it.  Heck, I cruised around for the better part of an hour tonight after I finished my workout, since it was a beautiful summer night with a full moon!

I even listend to the radio, both AM and the FM Tuner that I added
(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/attachments/13/Chaz-August-07-2008_003.jpg)

Damn, but the car looks good...now I've got to see about gettin' the Vectors thrown on him

Here's a mock-up of the wheel center I plan on using. That's the appliqué from a 1979 Cordoba 300 rear tail lamp on the American Racing center emblem.

Here's how it looks without the 300 appliqué

Looking gooooood!

Gotta do something about those wheels soon....all that fine paint needs something more than cop type wheels.

I don't know if I would drive around CA with a license plate that says "goofy"..... though it may describe one's driving style (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)

Chaz is looking good...I know how nice it is to FINALY get to cruise in the car after so much time and work.(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif)

I had a meeting at work the other night and brought the wagon out...I ended up going for a drive after the meeting, and then the next day used it to do my errands around town.(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif)

Thanks guys, I'll have to upload a few pics I took while heading from the San Fernando Valley to Malibu on Friday.

Bob, pleasedtameetcha (not YOU, Stitch, sheesh...I'll have to make it to Carlisle for that, I think (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif))

Hey Scott, I think I figured out why the passenger door was acting funky...I've never HAD passengers in the rear seat before, so I think it was a little flex in the BODY (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif) 'cause it hasn't acted weird since I left your place (then again, maybe you helped drive out a demon when you placed your hands on Chaz?  Oh, wait, that would have been a Dodge (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif) )

I'm enjoying driving Chaz and getting more than a few compliments (especially on the wheels, as a few guys asked about them Saturday..."Are those FACTORY wheels?"), or yesterday when I overheard one motorcyclist say to another (they were behind me) "Now THAT'S how a car SHOULD look!"

I got to see Chas in person this weekend at Fall Fling and have to say I was very impressed. Great looking car. The interior and wheels really set it apart from the rest.Good job Ken. It was also real nice to get to have lunch with Mosey and Snotty.  I hope we can do it again for Spring Fling. PS Snotty, I found the front license plate bracket.  PM me your shipping adress and I'll get it in the mail to you.

Moe, you'll have the last laugh when a cardiologist is sending the Roto-Rooter cable through Snotty's coronary arteries.   By eating healthy olives, onions, and green peppers, you're getting plenty of anti-oxidants that will insure you will be driving yer Mopar long after they've pulled the plug on those sausage snorting, pepperoni pounding pizza pundits!

Maybe...and I DID have some salad (even took Scotty's unwanted black olives)...but I don't mind having an all meat pizza, too.

Just as long as it doesn't have chicken (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif), I'm good.

BTW, here's a few from the cruise I did last Friday, from Van Nuys to Malibu (after driving down from Fresno.  3 hours to get to Van Nuys, 'natch).
The beginning, meeting at Woodley Park, where Fall Fling would be happening the next day (Saturday Oct. 18)

A stop along the way, the Rock Shop.  I didn't park next to the A-bodies because there were some bikes parked at one end.

Just to make you guys back East a little jealous, look at what was peeking from across the street...

This concert line-up sounded pretty good to me!(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif)
Not listed was The Tubes!!! (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif)

Anyhoo, we continued on to another vista spot further up the canyon as we headed West to Malibu, and a late lunch at Dukes
(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/attachments/13/FallFling-cruise-10-17-08_013.jpg)

I found out Chaz isn't quite ready for regular canyon carving, as the heat in the engine bay caused the secondary chamber in the master cylinder to boil a little, which made braking very hazardous...as in NO PEDAL!(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif)

But, we made it to Malibu without incident
(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/attachments/13/FallFling-cruise-10-17-08_018.jpg)

I turned 180 degrees from the garbage cans, and to the East was Pepperdine University
(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/attachments/13/FallFling-cruise-10-17-08_019.jpg)

When we got to Dukes, it wad valet parking.  When the guy leading the cruise got to the valet, he let him know we wanted to park together, and eventually the valet got the clue and let use park our own cars together.  As Justin later said, "Like I'M going to let somebody else park MY car!"

I didn't have *much* brake trouble on the way back to Van Nuys (via Topanga Canyon), thank goodness!

And this was the only pic I took at the Fall Fling the next day...not that I didnt have opportunity to take lots of pics, but I just didn't (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif)

What Scott has left out of the pizza dinner, is there was a special, 20" pizza with 2 meat and 2 veggie topping, salad and 4 drinks for $35.  So he orders the pizza, wants to get it made with 4 meat toppings, is told "That's not how the special works", and then the guy behind the counter offers to have the green peppers and olives on half along with the pepperoni and salami, and half without the green peppers and olives.

We all ate good, and the company was even better.

Steve, you or anyone else back East might want to see if a trip back out West can be made so Scott can play "host", since he's got the perfect house to do it!(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif)

I finally did it.  I did the ammeter bypass on Chaz.  It sure did suck working with mostly hand tools, kneeling in through the driver's door to get the firewall connector, not to mention having to remove the dash and drop the column to to the job (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif)(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif)

As I posted in one of the threads here (roasting Mobby methinks) I  found a few connectors that got HOT yet the fusible link was fine (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif) (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif)

No pics of the handiwork, 'cause it is ugly, but I will NEVER have a fire at the bulkhead..woo hoo (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif)

It sucked having the amount of daylight left in a day determine how much work, I could do which meant the weekends were work days (and so was yesterday, thankee veterans).

My purchase of a laminated LARGE color wiring diagram was VERY handy, especially when I thought I had everything hooked up last Sunday only to learn <R.White> I was WRONG </R.White>.

After a little bit of studying the ol' diagram, I spotted that I forgot to reconnect the ground wire that goes back out to the engine bay from the dash (the wire was TOASTED at the bulkhead connection), and once I spliced new wire to it and back up to the dash, life was MUCH better.

The only REAL complaint I have is what yutz designed the linkage that connects the column to the instrument cluster so you know what gear you are supposedly in?  Sheesh! That and trying to get the column lined up while working around the steering wheel just about had me reaching for my Snap-On prybar to BEAT them into submission (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif)

Anyhoo, the master cylinder is next on the list, and the aluminum Mopar MC I got off EBag (with the adapter) just arrived today, Yay!!!(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley16.gif)
