Title: kicking down...
Post by: Johnny D. on August 02, 2008, 05:42:58 PM

without me crawling under and adjust the portion on the trans... what is up with adjusting the kick down my car... i understand you have to hold the throttle open, and push the slider.... and then retighten the nut... maybe im missing something, because i've tried three positions and nothing seems "right".

but ever since i put the eddy on... its shifting kinda funny... a real quick 1.2. shift... the secondaries open for only what seems like a second... and flooring on the highway results in nothing more than a slow acceleration...

car is running much better, but this odd shifting is annoying and probably no good...

Yer gonna blow up the trans!!
You got it backwards!!
With the throttle CLOSED,and choke OFF pull back the kick down rod toward the front of the car as much as possible TIGHT! then tighten down the nut on it.
Understand? No? Studying law,eh?
maybe a FSM should be a cakewalk to read and understand compared to all thos legal jargon loaded books you are trying to study.<sigh> (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley22.gif)

Like Playboy,it is easier to look at the pictures than read the text....
LOL!

I've always adjusted mine at wide open throttle....Choke off, the open carb to full travel, then push back on the kickdown and adjust until it slips over the rod.   The back the kick down rod off a little bit and you should have it close...will need to fine tune it a bit one way or the other tuntil you get the tranny to feel right.

Some times you might need to do some major adjustments...either at the tranny or elsewere to get the basic adjustment in place but once that's done....(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif)

Mobby

To follow up last nights chat with Leaburn and I. . . .

I ordered a rebuilt distributor, 2 rear axle seals, and a set of rear shoes today.

When you come the 26th, Lea and I will fix the axle leak, change the shoes if they are soaked with oil, and put the new distributor in which will be precurved and ready to go.  We will also hook up your electric choke correctly.  With the two of us, we should be able to do the job in about an hour.  Lea will check your kick down and carb install.

We will check for the oil leak again, and I want to hear if the leak is gone or not since you changed the filter.

Here's the trade off.  You will have to help Elaine get the house ready for the crowd.  That will keep you busy and out of our hair.  Not to mention, we waste days running around you when you are in the way (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)  (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif) (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)

Bring that fuel line we bought.  If we get time, we'll change those vacuum hoses too.

At the risk of embarrassing you in public. . . . .
Stay focused on this since we will have limited time.  Answer any questions with simple answers.  We just want to have enough info to make an educated guess.  Do exactly what Lea and I tell you.  No deviations.  Don't take advice from any of your buddies. . .so far that has only failed.

Is there any other running issues you have besides MPG?

Are there any more oil leaks?

If you stick to this, things will go allot faster and repairs will last longer.  You'll get more for your buck if you follow the plan.  If Lea can get you 15 MPG, you owe him a wet kiss on the lips! (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)  (I'll take pictures)

If we didn't like you, we wouldn't bother.  Remember that.  Just don't drive us nuts with flake (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif)

I am a hell of a lucky guy to fall into such good graces...

no problem me sticking out of it...
plus im good at setting up chairs and tables...

and to keep things simple i'll say that more than enough stuff to have done...  If there's anything else (heater hoses, A/C switchs, timing chain, gas gauge) it can wait till fall like you said...

the only thing lea is kissing of mine will be the Molson I'm bringing him...

No worries Steve, me and the Big man will be up regardless, B just
needs to get his ass in gear with taking that day off. I'm already in
kahoots with Matt for his arrival, hopefully I make it home in one
piece after Sis tears me apart in an act of revenge(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif)

I sure hope he comes in a good car.  Matt is NOT taking Polaraco home!

Mobby will be in 7th heaven when Lea and I get through.

Mobby
so far your seals, and disty are here.  Lea will do his magic before you get here.  We're doing the 59 swap on Saturday.  If P and B Mike want to come up, that would be good, but not really needed.  AJ will be here.  Doing the trailer deal for the swap.  Mannnn  that is one sweet way to do motor swaps.
