Title: '64 Chrysler Torsion bars...
Post by: Rob Roche on June 17, 2008, 09:47:45 AM
Gang

I was juuust about to call Firm Feel and order new Torsion bars for my '64 300....went out to measure them just once more and they ain't 44" long....but the bars in the New Yorker were...or I'm halucinating. I had thought they were the same from car to car (300-New Yorker-Newport) I guess not?

Anyway, I'm going to pull 'em out and triple check. Probably should have done this in the first place (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif) (http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)

Anybody else ran into this on a pre-C? It would be cheaper if they were say....B-body or E-body length!

That is strange.  I would expect that on a 62 and earlier when NYs had a longer wheelbase than other models, but I thought they were standardized by '64

I've no idea

Nope. . .It's not the drugs you are on. . .

They are shorter up to 64.  They went 44" in 65.  I think the Imperials were 44" though.

I'll look in the hollanders and see what fits your car.

I think Justsuspensions has the 42"

Okay   Here we go.  Your options are limited at best

1962 to 64 Newport and 300
New Yorker is different

59 Chrysler Windsor
60 - 61  Windsor
61 Newport
62-64 Newport, 300
59 DeSoto Firesweep
59 Dodge except convertible
60-61 DeSoto
60-61 Dodge
62-64 Dodge 880
59 Plymouth Except Vert
60-61 Plymouth

Numbers
950 L  951 R
946 L  947 R
952 L  953R
956 L  957 R

These numbers are the ones on the end of the bar.  They higher the number, the beefier they are.  Example:  6 Cyl Plymouth standard would use a 946/947.  While a Police/Taxi would use 956/957  Even Numbers Left. . .Odd Numbers Right.

If you locate a bigger number for your car. . . Do them in pairs.  I'm betting you already have the 952/53's in there.  You'll pay havock trying to find the bigger ones used.
